What happened in Turkish football today? 07/10/2017
Turkish National Team didnt have any plans for game against Iceland.
Turkish National Team has ended its hopes to get to the World Cup 2018 which would be taken place in Russia with one game left, with losing to Iceland with 3:0 scoreline and providing very poor performance.
Yesterday's game where Turkey needed to just to get a win has led them to not getting into game and never during the game got to the highest level performance by them and allowing Iceland to play their game. With Iceland coming out in very organised, discipline manner and most importantly knowing what it wanted from game compare to Turkey has provided much more pleasing performance. To some extend and watching in neutral way the game wasnt dull but the reason it was exciting was due of good performance by Iceland. The defence of Turkish National Team has been specifically poor as Mehmet Topal who is midfielder didnt felt used to his new role as defender and has provided simple mistakes which would not been forgiven to any of the defence player. Turkish National Team head coach Mircea Lucescu has stated that he was preparing for this game for last month but it is unclear how he did so with such poor performance where Turkey didnt know what to do.
To some extend, this game has shown whole problem of Turkish National Team and general Turkish football as the team does have a big issue technically and stragically and players would now watch World Cup at their sofas.
Turkish Football Federation needs big changes after this failure at World Cup qualifications.
Without doubt the main responsible for Turkish National Team not getting to the World Cup 2018 lies into Turkish Football Federation who is responsible for national team and generally to develop Turkish football.
There were some rumours at the media after Iceland game that Turkish Football Federation CEO Yildirim Demiroren is considering to resign from his post after following poor performance of national team but it does look like it would stay only as rumour. It is been discussed for long time that Yildirim Demiroren unfortunately does provide mainly problems to develop Turkish football with its poor preparation of national team both technically, psychologically as the country it does have great potentiality to be footballing nation taking account how much interest this game provides in society. It is clear that TFF needs to go through through big changes both functionally and technically either with Yildirim Demiroren or without him. The new aim should be Euro 2020, but we always state prior to qualifying stages stating its new beginning, but things harder changes.
Turkish Football Federation needs big revision but unfortunately the chances of it to take place are pretty low.
Basaksehirspor are interested to transfer Nice player Wesley Sneijder.
There are rumours going around that Basaksehirspor are showing interest to transfer Nice player Wesley Sneijder who has failed to show top performance at the French club after being transferred from Galatasaray.
There is expectation that Wesley Sneijder and his wife Yolanthe Cabau would look forward for this transfer to become reality due of being used to Istanbul and also there is limited opportunity for Wesley Sneijder as footballer especially in France. It is known that there is clause at Galatasaray selling Wesley Sneijder which states that if he is transferred to Super League sides than there would be payment of 20,000 TL as compensation. However, it is expected that Sneijder might convince Galatasaray to at least reduce this compensation. Meanwhile, Basaksehirspor is known to focus into youth players of Turkey and mainly transfer experienced players from outside Turkey and hence Wesley Sneijder should be able to fit in with players like Adebayor, Elia among others and can provide high level performance as he is used to Turkish Super League and would seek to prove some good football in his last years of career.
Even through Wesley Sneijer is far from his top performance level which he was at, he is expected to be big help for Basaksehirspor and hence this transfer would be big win for both parties.
