What happened in Turkish football today? 16/10/2017

Trabzonspor terminates contract with Ersun Yanal after losing to Yeni Malatyaspor with 6:1 scoreline.

Trabzonspor has announced that it has terminated contract with its head coach Ersun Yanal following poor recent results at the team including losing shocking to Akhisarspor at its home with 6:1 result and this performance certainly has put them far away from main aims for this season.

The talks about resignation of Ersun Yanal from his post has been discussed actively during recent games and it became clear that it would become case following such a loss and also reaction of the team. The team which is celebrating its 50th birthday was aiming for league title or at least top 3 but this recent performance, especially 6:1 loss at its home was last straw for Ersun Yanal. It needs to be stated that its not only fault of Ersun Yanal as there are deeper issues at the team right now but Yanal did have choice to move this team forward and even through league title could be seen far-off aim for this season, he still doesnt have an excuse to push team backwards as it was competing worser and worser by each game. The new upcoming coach would have  a difficult job at motivating team and bringing back winning spirit to this damaged team and therefore Trabzonspor needs to choose character who can achieve that but as we are in ongoing season option for coach are limited.

The best option right now among candidates does seem to be Fatih Terim and Riza Calimbay as their are only names who are free and are familiar with Super League and its likely to be one of this two to be appointed.

Fenerbahce has send strong positive message prior to Galatasaray derby game.

Fenerbahce has won very important game against Yeni Malatyaspor during Super League 8th week game without having too much trouble and did play much better attacking football even through it still showed a habit to concede goal at each game during this season.

Even through Fenerbahce did provide much better performance compare to other games during this season its need also to admit that Yeni Malatyaspor did allow with the style of their game and having trouble to play attackning football at 1st half possibly due of shock of conceding two goals within 1st 6 minutes. However, as this blog before game has stated the biggest opponent for Fenerbahce are themselves with their style of game. So, therefore Fenerbahce did show big improvement as it has played much more focussed game and has found goals from key players Ozan Tufan and Guiliano who did recieve lots of criticism. This game certainly would provide much needed motivation and also change of system which would be needed to Galatasaray derby game on 22nd October. Is this game enough to win derby game is another topic, but Fenerbahce did get into right mood prior to game.

Fenerbahce with yesterday did send an important message that it would be going to Galatasaray for a win and at least would give tough time to league leaders.

Besiktas draw would be enough to carry on its knockout stage aim at Champions League.

Besiktas would be returning back to the Champions League and forget about it recent poor performance at the Super League as it would be aiming to make their leadership at the group much stronger and get much more closer to the play-off round.

Without doubt Besiktas would be aiming to carry its great start of the group stage with at least point against Monaco during Champions League and make one step closer for its aim to get to the knockout stage. Even through by many Monaco is seen as strongest team at the group, it needs to be stated that team is not as strong as it was last season with losing many of its key players, especially Mbappe. But that doesnt mean their are still strong side and would be able to give tough times to Besiktas. It needs to be also stated that Monaco performance at Ligue 1 is similar to Besiktas, so as Istanbul side their would see this game as turn-around game. It is important here for Besiktas to forget about Super League and remember that their still have 100% record at Champions League and play as leaders and team aiming for knockout stages.

Besiktas does have realistic chances to win game but noone would be too sad if it would end with draw. Most crucial thing is just give enough respect to Monaco and dont be scared of them, character which has been shown so far by them at Champions League.
