What happened in Turkish football today? 09/10/2017

Turkey has ended World Cup Qualifiers with draw against Finland.

Turkish National Team has ended its World Cup 2018 Qualifiers Group I game against Finland with 2:2 scoreline as the team was coming out in very bad mood after losing to Iceland and losing its qualification to Russia. This has certainly has affected to the way game has been played.

It needs to be stated that Turkish National Team as expected has controlled game for most of the time during the game with high number of the passes but those passes didnt provide a forward seeking game. In addition, as was expected during today's game Mircea Lucescu didnt present his best  team giving chances for youth players and even through it was chance to prove themselves for future but their had also been affected by the fact that has been for formality. Turkish National Team player Cenk Tosun meanwhile was aiming to end today's game with a win but Finland has always responded with a goal showing that their didnt want to end with a loss especially with good performance in last 3 games. Of course, this result is not very satisfying for Turkish National Team against team like Finland but with taking note that to be taken understanding of morale of team  but needs to be remembered that Turkish National Team needs to aim high in upcoming qualifying stage.

It needs to be stated that Finland which didnt start qualifying campaign with hope to get to the Russia for next year World Cup had less pressure during game. This game has shown to them that it was looking to show its best football which it has recieved with 2:2 scoreline against Turkey.

Now after this dissapointing campaign at World Cup qualifying Turkish National Team now needs to look forward for Euro 2020 and World Cup 2022 qualifiers and always to aim to enter to actual tournaments and this should be achieved by revisions at the team and Turkish Football Federation organisational aspects.

Besiktas aims to extend contract with its key midfielding players.

Besiktas has started its working regarding of extending contract with players for upcoming years with 1stly focusing with midfielders as it plans to provide extension offer of 4 years to Oguzhan Ozyakup and Tolgay Arslan and also 2+1 year contract to Atiba Hutchinson.

Without doubt the main focus of this offers is being towards Oguzhan Ozyakup as there is very strong interest around Europe to transfer him during mid-season transfer window or if not possible during next summer. This strong interest to Ozyakup is understandable as he has shown very good performance at Besiktas both at the league in recent years. This 4 year contract without doubt is showing to the player and other clubs that their see him as very important player for a team and dont have intentions to sell him easily. One of the main reasons meanwhile for 2+1 year contract offer to Hutchinson, which is less to Arslan and Ozyakup, is during of his age and the worry that his level of performance could be going down in upcoming future.

Those 3 players without doubt does play an important role for recent successes shown by Besiktas and becoming slowly team of European level and hence its normal to team wanting to keep those players while players in return does show interest to stay also.

Many people in Galatasaray dont want Arda Turan to comeback to a team.

It became clear that apart of Galatasaray administrators there is not much interest to transfer Barcelona player Arda Turan during mid-season transfer window as fans and head coach Igor Tudor that his ego and general behaviour in recent years would only do damage to team.

Its important to state that without doubt Arda Turan is true Galatasaray fan and its hard to see him to play at any other teams apart Istanbul giants in Turkish Super League but with his recent behaviour he has seen by many as unwanting man. In fact, those talks that Arsenal are showing strong interest to him could be seen as surprise unless Arsene Wenger does believe that he can bring back to high level performance from Turkish star. Arda Turan is undoubtedly seems to be in getting worser. He has always been having high ego with himself, but before he was able to support this to some extend with performance sadly and honestly he is unable to do so anymore. So it does look like Igor Tudor might be right to see that Arda Turan could provide damage.

It is reasonable for Galatasaray administrators to want him to bring back due of good relation with club but their need to consider how he would affect performance wise to a team.
