What happened in Turkish football today? 18.05.2017
Basaksehirspor shows once again to everyone why it is top team.
Following a 3-hour long game against Fenerbahce which has also provided very exciting penalty shoot-outs, Basaksehirspor has got to the Turkish Cup final where it would meet against Konyaspor on 31st May.
It needs to be noted that even through the tempo of the game for most part has not been very high, Basaksehirspor had a control of the game and has created a very good chances. With yesterday performance it did show to everyone that for them to be at the final of the Turkish Cup and also being 2-point behind of league leaders Besiktas is not coincidence. The tactics which was provided by the Abdullah Avci was unusual as their mainly focussed into defence which has worked but also has made both sides tired as it was visible at the extra-time during the game. It was lucky at the penalty kick-offs but the fact that it took that long, as there were 26 penalties taken does show how both teams were concentrated as its not easy tasks to play 120 minutes and then go to the penalty shoots-outs both physically and mentally. Basaksehirspor does come out as favourite at the game against Konyaspor at the final, but Konyaspor is expected to give their best at the final also.
Basaksehirspor would now play against Trabzonspor during Super League 32nd week on 21st May and it would become visible if this tiredness would affect the game as it has been stated several times is hardest game for them left in the Super League. But once thing is certain this win also would provide them advantage with motivation.
Fenerbahce needs to regain concentration to the last 3 games at the Super League.
Coming to the Fenerbahce as been stated at our blog entry last week, Fenerbahce has for now closed this season and only aim it has right now is to end season at the 3rd position as it is being 2 point advantage over Galatasaray.
It was stated several times at the blog and by Turkish sports media that main aim for Fenerbahce is to get to the Turkish Cup final and in fact it did improve its performance compare to the Super League but with tactically and physically strong opponent it couldnt get its winning spirit. Stating that Fenerbahce did manage to comeback twice from losing game but in same time did concede two goals. Stating that its important to note that Fenerbahce did fail to create once again lots of chances which could been seen from dedicated and strong defence by Basaksehirspor. As was observed, at the game against Antlayaspor, Fenerbahce has ended Super League mentally and hence it is big question how would Fenerbahce respond to rest of the season including game against Genclerbirligi on 22nd May.
Fenerbahce has now difficult task to get concentrated to last 3 games as it has strong chance of losing its 3rd place and lose its advantage to start season later due of Europa League qualification rounds and needs to get attention once again.
Galatasaray has an aim for 3rd place but its unstable performance doesnt make their win confident prior to game.
Galatasaray has set its aim for last 3 games to overpass Fenerbahce and end season at the 3rd place and to achieve that it needs firstly to beat Osmanlispor with who it would play on 32nd week and use an advantage of home.
Galatasaray during this season has provided unstable performance and hence its difficult to be certain how game would end even through it needs to be stated that it does play with an opponent who doesnt have any aims and has lacking any motivaiton compare to Galatasaray. Galatasaray needs to play an attacking seeking game at the game tomorrow if it wants to win as it has provided its best results with this game, and when it start defending it start losing an important points and despite of controlling game in possession doesnt turn into the results. Osmanlispor head coach Hamza Hamzaoglu would play against his old club, where he feels like he was sacked unfairly and this factor would also provide him with extra motivation which he would like also to bring to players.
Galatasaray would come out as favourites due of as stated it has some aims for rest of the season but with unstable performance during this season the game is still open to different results and Osmanlispor and its head coach Hamza Hamzaoglu to provide dissapointment to Istanbul club.
