Red card of Ismail Koybasi has helped Genclerbirligi to get win against Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce has started its 2016-17 campaign at the Turkish Cup group stage with a 2:1 loss to fellow Super League team Genclerbirligi at the game which it had played for most of the time with players who didnt recieve lots of play time during this season and also with 10 men for most of the time.
Red card of the Ismail Koybasi which has been recieved at the 10th minute of the game has certainly affected Fenerbahce in a negative way as it couldnt provide its best performance taking account that players which playe have hardly played this season or are reserves has been mainly consisted at the game. Fenerbahce needs to be stated did keep control and has got leadership of the score following 1st half but it became even more tired during 2nd half and Genclerbirligi has shown much more attacking football. Despite of very poor performance at the 1st half, Genclerbirligi has shown good reaction. It needs to be stated that team did of course wanted to win the game it wouldnt take this loss too serious even through its been first loss after 7 games.
Genclerbirligi didnt provide good performance at the 1st half but showed good reaction and did use its chance to get positive result with the weaker squad of Fenerbahce and playing with 10 men for almost whole game has led for a win. Genclerbirligi didnt perform its best football but this result would be big advantage to possibly now aim for leadership at the group.
Fenerbahce would need to forget this result and focus into very important derby game against Besiktas on 3rd December and surely all efforts for next 2 days will be given to that game.
Galatasaray 2nd half performance against Elazigspor gives warning signs to Riekerink.
Galatasaray had experienced unexpected draw against Elazigspor during its first game at the Turkish Cup despite of providing pretty optimistic view during 1st half, however with poor performance during 2nd half it couldnt prevent 1:1 draw against 1st league team.
Galatasaray as would be expected would be a strong favourite for a game even taking account that it would play with rotation and will be missing number of key players at the team. Galatasaray has shown pretty attacking football during 1st half of the game which led for Lionel Carole to find goal at the 41st minute. It needs to be stated that Elazigspor has shown defensive football which has led to attacking style on 2nd half. Galatasaray didnt show any attacking football possibly believing that it would win game without wasting too much energy to which their been punished by last minute goal by Murat Kayali. Galatasaray did show some worrying performance even with that squad which surely has made head coach Jan Olde Riekerink worried about upcoming games.
Elazigspor has shown pretty positive and brave football against Galatasaray and has shown that it would aim to get 2nd place at this group stage for last 16 ticket. The fight by Elazigspor until last minute would only provide good motivation for a team.
Galatasaray has shown pretty worrying performance at the game today but taking account that its Turkish Cup and level of group it would not recieve too much criticism. But still Jan Olde Riekerink would question performance of some players at the team during today's result.
It was normal for Besiktas to underperform with its inexperienced squad.
Due of derby game against Fenerbahce on 3rd December, Besiktas has played with heavily youth and reserve squad at its Turkish Cup game against 3rd league team Darica Genclerbirligi and following squad has almost cost a 3 point for them at the 1st game in the group.
With taking account that Besiktas has big aims both at the leagues and Champions League at this season, the fact that team has played with its weak squad against relatively weak team should not be treated as surprise. However, the comment of Besiktas head coach Senol Gunes stating that level of football should been higher even through is understandable, the way team performed should not be seen as big surprise with quality of his team. Also following statement does put Darica Genclerbirligi in degrading which did play its best football and almost got a memorable point from its opponents.
The biggest winner of the game meanwhile will be Kerim Frei who got chance to prove himself and possibly get prevented from leaving the team at the midseason transfer window and possibly would recieve some playing time this season.
As been mentioned, right now Besiktas is focussed into the Fenerbahce derby game of Super League 13th week game which could decide if Besiktas will lose its 4 point advantage or make it bigger, but task is not easy for them at all as it plays in Fenerbahce stadium.
