What happened in Turkish football today? 04.12.2016

Galatasaray has won an important game against Kasimpasa.

Galatasaray has won an important game against Kasimpasa at the week where Basaksehirspor, Besiktas and Fenerbahce, teams which are currently main opponents to them have lost 2 points each. Despite of not providing very good game tonight it has achieved at getting closer to the top of the league.

Galatasaray was still behind good football especially during the moments where it was leading the game, in fact it had allowed for Kasimpasa to control the game during last 15 minutes of the game after it was with 10 men where it has played better football than during 11-on-11. In fact, Kasimpasa found penalty kick while with being one man less at the 79th minute which could lead to Galatasaray to also lose 2 points among teams in similar manner as team above them. However, great save by the Fernando Muslera once again has saved game win for Galatasaray. It needs to be stated that Galatasaray meanwhile has found two fast goals, 6 minutes from start to the game by Podolski and 5 minutes after Kasimpasa made scoreline 2:1. Galatasaray at short has shown great reaction to the game while score was draw but didnt carry on top football when leading which  is worrying performance and are wrong tactics by the top team in the league.

Kasimpasa needs to be stated did provide forward thinking game without providing an easy win however as it tends to be with those games the quality has made difference as Galatasaray has used its chances more effectively. Kasimpasa are still performing below its level but it does show some signs
of improvement and gives some hopes for upcoming games.

With following result Galatasaray has got into 3rd place at the league with being 5 points behind leaders Basaksehirspor and 3 points behind Besiktas. With this win it has opportunity to get to the midseason break while being at the fight for top of the league.

Fenerbahce needed to risk more in game against Besiktas.

Turkish Super League 13th week derby game between Fenerbahce and Besiktas didnt fulfill expectation from football fans as the game has ended without any on-target shots from both teams and was mainly focussed into the defence.

The following outcome it needs to be stated was especially surprising for Fenerbahce as it needed to win this game to reduce point difference from Besiktas to 1 point and from leaders Basaksehirspor 4 points. It needs to be stated as always Fenerbahce has shown great defence and was possibly scared to lose game so it wouldnt make difference even bigger between Besiktas but Fenerbahce did need to get win. In fact, during pre-game statements at Fenerbahce prior to derby game its been stated several times that it would be aiming for a win. When comparing two teams it could be stated that Fenerbahce has been playing more attacking football but its not been enough from them. In addition, Fenerbahce defence is strong enough to provide attackers more forward style game. After the game Fenerbahce is at similar place as it was from leaders prior to game and 2nd placed and didnt provide much effort to reduce point difference.

Fenerbahce didnt lose game and keeps its motivation high after the game and carries on not losing to Besiktas since 2005 and has shown great defensive game but this result didnt provide much advantage to them.

Besiktas in result wise has gained what it wanted from Fenerbahce game.

Besiktas in other hand had provided same game as Fenerbahce as it was focussed into defensive game including at the midfielding. However, even through this football should not be praised it was more understandable by them.

Besiktas head coach Senol Gunes did state himself after the game that he is aware that the team has played boring football but circumstances has led that. It needs to be stated that for Besiktas, draw is not bad score, taking account Basaksehirspor losing 2 points to Antalyaspor, crucial game against Dinamo Kiev at Champions League on 6th December, advantage against Fenerbahce and also playing at the Kadikoy where Fenerbahce shows great performance. With this all circumstances it was normal for Besiktas to putting its priority not to lose game rather than winning it. However, it could been argued that Besiktas could have shown better attacking football as it didnt create any chances and hence led Fenerbahce player Volkan Demirel to have most calm game of the season.

Besiktas to some extend did achieve its task prior to game and will give all focus to the Champions League game Dinamo Kiev at which if it manages to win, it would get into knockout stages of the tournament for first time at its history.
