What happened in Turkish football today? 04.03.2016
Fenerbahce players start giving what Pereira wants from them.
Not many people at the Turkish football media world has expected that Fenerbahce would be only team which would compete at all competitions in March especially after loss to Shakhtar Donetsk at the Champions League qualifier but right now Fenerbahce is fighting for league title with Besiktas, at semi-final of the Turkish Cup and last 16 stage at the Europa League.
Fenerbahce with its performances might not provide still ideal football but the players want to succeed and provide football which is team head coach Vitor Pereira wants from them, and Pereira himself lately start praising number of players stating that the their start providing great football which he is seeking for. Yesterday win against Amed Sportif might not be most tough one of the season and it is true that team quite naturally played at 2nd gear, especially 2nd half, but it still managed to win the game against most surprising side of the Turkish Cup this season. Among important wins, the team gets by each game high morale and motivation which would be needed in upcoming games especially at the Europa League.
Fenerbahce will play against Akhisar Belediyespor at the Super League on Sunday as one of the tough barriers to league title as the Akhisar is mainly focussed to get European spot at the table, hence poor performance at the Turkish Cup against Galatasaray. But the aims of Fenerbahce are higher and also with better quality so it should be playing for positive defensive football on 6th March and get a win.
Besiktas treated Turkish Cup as non-important from beginning.
Every single season, especially if team fights for league title, at least one of the big "4" teams puts Turkish Cup at the 2nd importance treating it as unimportant and hence being elimanated at stages before it was expected to be. This season this team is surely Besiktas.
Quite naturally fans and players of Konyaspor, especially after losing 4:0 at the Super League in
December to Besiktas are seeing this win as an important achievement but it needs to be remembered that Besiktas allowed them to win the game. Konyaspor is strong team for sure and currently fights for European spot at the Super League but in normal conditions Besiktas should not have trouble against them. Besiktas attitute in fact was seen due of whole tournament and only factor that it had easy group at group stage and Boluspor at last 16 stage has allowed Besiktas to get to this stage, or otherwise Besiktas has shown poor performance at Turkish Cup all around.
After this, Besiktas will strongly focus only to Super League which might give them advantage but in same time if Fenerbahce gets good results from other tournaments than momentum would be on their opponents side.
Galatasaray administrators need to put blame on them and then fix it.
Despite of the derby week between Fenerbahce and Besiktas which was played on Monday, the most talked team at the sports media this week was Galatasaray due of resignation of head coach Mustafa
Denizli and recieving of the 1-year ban by UEFA for not following FFP regulations.
The mess which Galatasaray is at has been created by themselves. Since sacking of the Fatih Terim 2.5 years ago the team did not ever get into strong feet standing at performance and economically despite of having successful last season. The current administrators led by CEO Dursun Ozbek does show goodwill of solving issues but it has problem at populizing its willingness to solve issues making sound like their reduced high ban from UEFA. But ban is still a ban. It also clear that issue is not with head coach as after Terim team had changed 4 head coaches, and all of them were "unsuccessful". The team needs to stop throwing blame into others.
Administrators need to recognise that some mistakes are based from them, identify them and find solutions or otherwise club might not have great future.
