What happened in Turkish football today? 11.04.2017

Basaksehirspor performance at this season should be at least praised.

Basaksehirspor carries on providing a memorable performance at this season Super League as it has won against one of the giants of the Super League - Galatasaray during 27th week with 4:0 scoreline with huge help from hat-trick by Emmanuel Adebayor.

It needs to be reminded meanwhile that both clubs has been met third time at this season with Basaksehirspor winning all of the games and more importantly showin superiority over their opponents. With being 5 points behind league leaders Besiktas and still having a game against them on 29th week it can realistically focus into setting its target as league title especially taking account that Besiktas still carries both at the Europa League and even through Basaksehirspor is at the Turkish Cup, Besiktas condition its much difficult to cope with. Playing Champions League theme song following win against Galatasaray and generally performance of the team both at the field and outside does show that players believe it can get league title or at the worst get Champions League spot. Emmanuel Adebayor meanwhile has provided lots of the strength to Basaksehirspor and this memorable season to make it even more memorable for last 7 games could be helped by Adebayor a lot.

There was an expectation by most people that Basaksehirspor would drop its performance as week progress but it currently sits comfortably at 2nd place and 5 point behind league leaders with 7 games left, so this performance needs to be praised at least.

Igor Tudor has thought that Basaksehirspor is in same level as Adanaspor.

In other hands, Galatasaray has provided one of their worst performance during last season with losing to Basaksehirspor with 4:0 scoreline and not being able to create any attacks during whole game.

Even through Basaksehirspor without doubt did great homework at how to stop Galatasaray and tactically it worked, the team itself didnt provide much effort to have those chances with also not very good decisions by Igor Tudor. Interestingly, and this is being one of the big mistakes by head coaches, he has viewed Basaksehirspor to be at the same level as Adanaspor. It needs to be noted, to all respect to Adanaspor, that it is team at the league which every other 17 teams can win without having too much trouble. And while Basaksehirspor is 2nd best team at the league this tactic by Igor Tudor is beyond understanding. Not introducing key players like Wesley Sneijder and Lukas Podolski, which can provide good performance despite of being old in footballing life and slow it was big mistake which certainly Igor Tudor should need to be revising and think about after the game.

Galatasaray would meet after referandum break with Fenerbahce and even through both teams are having poor seasons, Fenerbahce does come out as favourite with their recent performance and Galatasaray needs to improve a lot if it wants to win derby game.

Fenerbahce are interested to appoint Mircea Lucescu as club's head coach.

According to rumours, Fenerbahce who has almost agreed to appoint Konyaspor head coach Aykut Kocaman, has also had transfer negotiations with Zenit head coach and most talked coach at the Turkish media Mircea Lucescu.

It needs to be noted that Mircea Lucescu hasnt been able to provide top performance at the Zenit as he did at Shakhtar Donetsk and among reasons for them to be 8 points behind leaders of Spartak Moscow has been performance by Lucescu with him not being happy with some conditions. Taking account that according to reports, Lucescu does consider to leave the team it is normal for Fenerbahce to have direct talks with him. But Lucescu does have contract until next year and he did state to Russian media that he would consider to leave or to stay at the  team at the end of the season. Therefore, Fenerbahce does have some hope to appoint Lucescu and try its chance but its too early to know if he would join.

As it is known due his reign in Turkey he managed to become champions both with Besiktas and Galatasaray but never has worked with Fenerbahce and if he does come there is chance he can become one of the few to experience title with 3 different clubs.
