What happened in Turkish football today? 21.04.2017

Besiktas has shown that it can play top football in Europe.

Besiktas has shown a memorable performance during Europa League quarter-final  2nd leg game against Olympique Lyon where it has fought until end of the game during 120 minutes and carried on this spirit at the penalties.

As been stated at the blog entry at our yesterday post, if Lyon has also lost this game it would been unfair for them either as this game would been seen as both sides should have been get through. But to look at the things critical it needs to be admitted that during game which difference between sides was not too big, there were some moments where Olympique Lyon has been provided some weaknesses. It needs to be stated that during yesterday performance Mitrovic was bit behind of his expectations as he looked to be too slow at the defence and has led for Lacazzette to create some number of the chances. Still Besiktas has been shown a fighting spirit until end of the game with Fabri showing his quality during whole game being a bit unlucky during penalty kick. The game itself has been played with high tempo which rarely gets that high at the Super League so it needs to be admitted that Besiktas playing like that for 120 minutes is very impressive. But there is a big chances that this tiredness from Besiktas would show itself during Super League 28th week game against Adanaspor.

Most important thing from yesterday game and in fact of whole season at the Europa League, is been fact that Besiktas has shown that it is capable to show top performance and get big wins at its journey in the Champions League and Europa League.

Trabzonspor and Antalyaspor will battle for 5th place at the table in game.

Following Turkish consitutional 1 week break at the Super League, it has restarted with 28th week games with 2 games today. Even through the main game is derby game between Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, Trabzonspor and Antalyaspor is also game for both sides to fight for Europa League spot.

With taking account that both Fenerbahce and Basaksehirspor having good chance at also winning Turkish Cup, there is possibility for an extra place, 5th position, to be open for Europa League next season. And two clubs which are fighting for that spot and has shown great performance during 2017 half of the season would be fighting for that spot are meeting against each other tomorrow. With referandum break being there both sides had 2 weeks to prepare for game and study all of the weaknesses of their opponents. Trabzonspor it needs to be noted as expected with their very impressive performance of 2017 does come out as favourites, with also taking account its high paced football shown against Besiktas. However, Antalyaspor would certainly show that it will not be a team which could be easily beaten.

So, as said with an opportunity to get 5th place could be important, as both sides does look to have trouble at getting top 4 right now, this game could decide at the end of the season of 5th team which would compete in Europe next season.

West Ham United are interested to transfer Onur Recep Kivrak.

One of the most eye-catching and discussing transfer rumours which took place at the Turkish media today has been talks that West Ham United are interested to transfer Trabzonspor player Onur Recep Kivrak.

West Ham United head coach Slaven Bilic during his stay at Besiktas has got a very good impression from number of Turkish players across the league and it does look like one of them to be Onur Kivrak from Trabzonspor. Being one of the best goalkeepers in Turkey and with stable performance at his team for long time now it would be seen quite normal for such interest given to him. However, it is known that Kivrak is loyal player to Trabzonspor so if such interest is real it is unknown if he would like to move to West Ham United. In addition, Trabzonspor which has an aim to make team to fight for league title next season might not look too interested at selling one of its key players regardless which club and country is asking for him.

Therefore, with interests of both Kivrak and Trabzonspor its very hard to see him moving to West Ham United, but as always things can change when their provide good offer for him in sense of cash.
