What happened in Turkish football today? 19.01.2016

Galatasaray carries on 2016 without losing a game.

Turkish Cup 5th week game between Akhisar Belediyespor and Galatasaray was more crucial to the Akhisar Belediyespor as Galatasaray already has qualified to play-off stage while Akhisar Belediyespor needed a win to get that spot. However, the game has ended with 1:1 scoreline which means that during this important period for Galatasaray it didnt lose the game.

Galatasaray had a difficult task as it needed to win a game to keep its momentum however in the sense of the Turkish Cup it had done its task and hence had loss of concentration and also not playing with its best squad which could be available. It was quite natural for Akhisar Belediyespor to play more attacking football and hence it should not be surprising that it was one who have found first goal with Guray Vural. Galatasaray has responded towards end of the first half to bring  a point and carry its defeatless group stage prior to last game in the Turkish Cup group stage next week.

Galatasaray has carried on its defeatless period of 2016 prior to crucial game against Osmanlispor at the weekend and hence has managed to keep high motivation and morale prior to this crucial game. Galatasaray is now surely is focussed into start to regain its title chances at the Super League with being 10 points behind Fenerbahce and 8 points with Besiktas (who has game in hand).

Akhisar Belediyespor has got very important point meanwhile while it aims for 2nd play-off spot at the group as it would play against Karsiyaka. This could be very interesting game as it would make it clear who gets that spot.

Refereeing at the Eskisehirspor-Fenerbahce was shocking and worrying

The game between Eskisehirspor and Fenerbahce were mainly dominated by questionable decisions by referee of the game rather than with the game itself even through it was not a game great to watch. The decisions which was made during game, against Eskisehirspor especially, surely has affected to the final scoreline.

Surely, Fenerbahce was coming to the game as strong favourite and would win game without help of referee, but the decisions which were made had affected to the morale and motivation of Eskisehirspor which was arleady low as game started. The red card to Eskisehirspor player Alpaslan Ozturk was especially questionable taking account that it was Fenerbahce player Mehmet Topal who had stepped into leg of Ozturk and hence done the foul. This has shown once again that referees are not in great conditions in the Turkey and their decisions has direct role at the outcome of the games.

Central Referee Committee needs to find solutions of this in urgent manner until this issue gets out of the hand and will bring much harsher reactions from administrators of the teams in Turkey especially ones who are at relegation zone.

Chance for youth players of Besiktas to show themselves at game against Kardemir Karabuskor.
Besiktas head coach Senol Gunes has stated on Sunday that he plans to play his youth team in the Turkish Cup 5th game game against Kardemir Karabukspor tomorrow and he had kept his word as his squad at the game tomorrow consists fully of youth. This decision is surely a sign of protest to the scheduling of the games and whole system at the Turkish Cup.

It also needs to be remembered that Besiktas task at the group stage has been completed and it surely will get to play-off stage prior to 2 games of the group stage, as other big "4" teams has managed to do so. This of course can also be seen opportunity for its youth players to play much competitive game and get experience espcially mentally even if game itself is not very important for a team. One thing certain who view game might see some future stars of Besiktas and Turkish football in general.

This decision meanwhile could also be advantage for Kardemir Karabukspor to bring "surprise" result as it might have chance against unexperienced players. Kardemir Karabukspor would very likely not be scared to play attacking football tomorrow.
