What happened in Turkish football today? 01.01.2016

Boyko and Douglas will make Besiktas stronger team.

Transfer of Dnipro goalkeeper Dennis Boyko and defender Douglas is coming to conclusion right now for Besiktas as both players are willing to move to the Super League leaders with low salary as team tries to make good transfers without spending too much cash. The following transfers has potential to solve out goalkeeper issue which team seems to have and make defence stronger.

Both players had played an important role for the Dnipro to get to the Europa League final and one of the key players of the Ukrainian team, so it is questionable if club will be willing to sell players to Besiktas in same manner as players wont to play for a club. But it does look like Besiktas and Dnipro will be able to agree for transfer to take place with pressure by both players of wanting to leave the club.

As it will be expected Besiktas currently does look at alternative names at same position but its priority are those two players and if those transfers does turn into reality than club will be much strong in 2nd half.

Yilmaz Vural vs Ahmet Calik argument brings new dimension to Vural sacking.

The story of sacking of Genclerbirligi head coach Yilmaz Vural after 6 days of his appointment still continues to recieve big attention with Vural throwing all the blames to the team player Ahmet Calik telling that he was main reason he was sacked. Vural went on so far to state that Galatasaray head coach Fatih Terim should not call him to squad again after those statements.

Today Ahmet Calik had made public statement that he didnt use those comments towards Genclerbirligi CEO Ilhan Cavcav regarding of Yilmaz Vural and he will not to this stuff. As it became clear that the players were among reasons Vural was sacked it could be stated this comments does raise some questions. Calik could make those statements in fear of having serious consequences. However, Yilmaz Vural story about Calik could be exerrated or even made up. As usual, it is difficult who is saying truth or who is not.

One thing is certain every head coach will become scared to become Genclerbirligi coach with its attitude to sack coaches in such short notice.

Group stage of Turkish Cup makes everyone unhappy.

Number of Turkish clubs has been announced that their might call for delay for 1 week of the Turkish Cup group stage due of not having enough time to have half-season break training camps. With Turkish Cup changing format 2 year ago there was big criticism by most parts of Turkish sports media and clubs due of high number of games and fixture schedule.

The only media outlet which seems to be happy with current format looks only to be broadcaster but even them will not be very happy due of low ratings during group stage games. With current form it favours also mainly strong teams and reduces chances of having high number of surprises in duration of the Cup. Only knock-out stage seems to be best format and that it how it works at leading domestic cups at the Europe.

With this factor most clubs only have chance to have trainings only for 5 days as current week almost every club allowed its players to go on vacation. Most clubs will not be ready for 3rd week games at Turkish Cup which would affect to the performance of the teams at those games.
