What happened in Turkish football today? 10.01.2016 (100th post)

Besiktas starts the year with draw with tough opponent

Besiktas has started 2016 year, year for which it has big aims, with Turkish Cup game against
Trabzon 1461 which it was aiming to undoubtedly to win however with Trabzon 1461 being 2nd strongest team at the group and always being able to provide surprises in last seasons at Turkish Cup let a game to end with 1:1 draw. A result which could be seen as surprise but could been expected by some.

The game has started at the slow tempo with both teams playing slow passing game showing that either Besiktas did not take this game in serious manner or didnt get enough time for training camp.

However, as the half progressed Besiktas has started playing more tempo football and tried to create more attacks as time has progressed during the 1st half. The goal by Jose Sosa at the end of first half was for Besiktas like reward for creating number of attacks at duration of this time. However, the story has changed at 2nd half where among attacks created by Besiktas, Trabzon 1461 has also created number of attacks showing to Besiktas that it is not scared and have managed to score a goal on 66th minute which brought them deserved draw result.

In the sense of importance of game it was not crucial loss of two points as Besiktas has high chance to get to play-off stage, but it did lose the opportunity to get a win and raise motivation of the players in the start of calendar year. However, this score will not affect to much towards Super League morale as two teams once again will meet on mid-week at 4th week of the Turkish Cup.

Coming to Trabzon 1461 it was very important point for them if their aim to get to play-off stage where it deserves to be. Also, with this draw Trabzon 1461 has showed that it takes tournament very seriously and proves itself to be Turkish Cup team.

Fenerbahce starts year with same Pereira system in game against Giresunspor

Even through Fenerbahce head coach Vitor Pereira made it clear that Turkish Cup is not priority for them, the performance at the tournament is showing that team does still aim to  play quality football at the tournement. Latest win has come against Giresunspor at away with 2:0 scoreline with goals scored by Fernandao and Sosa.

Fenerbahce head coach Pereira has made right decision to play with its best players as the Super League, which will be very tough for Fenerbahce, is going to restart next weekend and it was important to make players physically and mentally ready once again for competitive football. The players meanwhile even through didnt perform perfect football had once again provided great defensive game which became team trademark this season and Fernandao showing he wants to score a goal which he did at the end of the game. Maybe game wise Fenerbahce was not at best form, but its classical Pereira logic was seen at the game and has shown that players are became even more used to the system.

Assuming Fenerbahce will win against Giresunspor at its home game in midweek, it will start 2nd half of the league with high motivation and as it will aim to win as most games as possible for obviously to become league champions. With good performance at Cup it will surely move this morale and performance to Super League and later to Europa League.

It was expected for Giresunspor to get following result meanwhile, but it try to provide some attacking game against Fenerbahce  and showing that it doesnt intent to  play too much defensive and will likely to do so in mid-week game.

Players like Umut Bulut need urgently find goals to keep angry fans quiet.

Galatasaray win against Karsiyaka was very important for the club not only because it can guarenteed to get to the play-off stage at the Turkish Cup but also more importantly it needed a motivation boost prior to difficult task of winning all of the 17 games at the Super League, if of course players still think that it can win league title. Right now, the team is in right mood for next game against Karsiyaka at midweek and also to important difficult task at the league.

The most important advantage of yesterday game, as been mentioned yesterday, is fact that Ryan
Donk has scored his first goal at his new team. There is lots of expectation and task at the Donk such as replacement of him of the Melo and it is difficult to know if he will be able to take his place but one thing is certain Donk will try his best. Downside of the game meanwhile was miss by Umut Bulut to empty net from 3 metres distance which continued anger and reaction by fans.

One of the tasks of Galatasaray among winning games is for star players who lost support from fans try to show them that their still can be huge help for the team with their performance. Because it is best known that best way to shut down angry fans and critics is by performance and scoring goals. When this issue will be solved, team as a whole will go forward at the rest of the games.
