What happened in Turkish football today? 15.01.2016

Besiktas had trouble against 1461 Trabzon.

Among the big 4 teams at the Turkey, only Besiktas had lost points during group stage of the Turkish Cup following of the 4 weeks as it had trouble against 1461 Trabzon on the weekend. Playing once again yesterday against pilot team of Trabzonspor, and only being able to score at the last minute of the game, it became clear that 1461 Trabzon ended up being very tough opponent for Besiktas.

Of course, it can be argued that compare to Super League, where it aims to end season as the champions, club was not playing its best at the cup, however it hard to say that even with poor performance team didnt aim to win those games. As been mentioned, previously 1461 Trabzon despite of being at the 1st league, has given big troubles to the big four and was always hard to beat and hence it feels comfortable at the group stage to get to the play-off stage. Quite naturally Besiktas head coach Senol Gunes even through does aware that there is not much to worry about, it is still unhappy with performance as it might affect to the weekend first week game against Mersin IdmanYurdu.

Only positive issues is that Mersin IdmanYurdu is having big issues both economically and with head coaches and therefore Besiktas might have comfortable game even if its will be in bad day at performance wise. Besiktas does go to game with high motivation but there are few questions of how much players ready after break.

Galatasaray starts its 17 out of 17 wins aim against Sivasspor.

Galatasaray will be restarting its Turkish Super League season against Sivasspor tomorrow and hence also would start its race to get into title race of the league with 11 points behind league leaders Besiktas with 17 games to go. Its first opponent would be Sivasspor who doesnt have great season, but still can be dangerous for Galatasaray as it is team with high motivation.

After making two out of two against Karsiyaka at the Turkish Cup the team will be going out with high motivation with also good performance of Ryan Donk at those games. Even through at table wise it is not really important game, the game will get a lot of attention as people would like to see how Galatasaray will perform as it has currently difficult task of making 17 out of 17 if it really want to have chance to get league title. Newly-signed player Martin Linnes meanwhile will not be playing tomorrow at the game possibly due of not feeling ready fo this crucial game (as all games for Galatasaray will be crucial from now on). Galatasaray must get a win tomorrow if it wants to restart its title race.

Undoubetly, Sivasspor has difficult task tomorrow but it is still possible for them to get to something out of game tomorrow. Sivasspor has good transfer season and has reasons to be motivated themselves. It wont be easy to them but they wont just let Galatasaray win for sure.

High number of Turkish Cup play-off teams has become clear.

One of the interesting factors but in same time very expected is that all big 4 teams and other teams at the Super League, such as Bursaspor, are having  a comfortable games at the group stages of the Turkish Cup. Apart of Besiktas, all of those teams has made 4 out of 4 with some of those games their didnt give enough effort.

Advantages of those teams mainly lays into issue that in general there are high numbers of 1st league team at this season group stage which allows them to be in specific ease with quality and team strength. Even through it is good thing as those team recieves experience, the fact that with two games to go at Turkish Cup high number of clubs has become present at play-off stage has made it obvious that this system has issues. With more clubs likely to get play-off spot after 5th week game next week, last week games would mainly be played for formalities.

However, there are still some groups where fight for last 16 is going on and our Twitter and Facebook pages would update with live scores as group stages comes to conclusion.
