What happened in Turkish football today? 21/09/2020

Fenerbahce didnt provide any effective game against Hatayspor

Turkish Super League 2nd week between Fenerbahce and Hatayspor has ended with goalless draw with both sides in all fairness did everything to provide high-level anti-football game with Fenerbahce player Gokhan Gonul header which hit post only provided memorable position.

With taking account that Hatayspor did play with last 20 minutes with 9 men, it was still visible that Fenerbahce didnt provide strong creative attacking game without being able to get effective game, with some moments even looked like Hatayspor was playing with extra men. One of the main aspects which been visible with side is that many players looked to be too slow with going forward both with and without ball and also had some issues with understanding between players which without doubt did affect for such poor performance. It needs to be noted that with getting such quality players to the squad, it is important for Erol Bulut to get maximum level in the field and raise understanding as soon as possible, especially as it going to play to against Galatasaray during next week which is being in total opposite as it provide most strong game with providing side which is most ready in this league in early weeks. With taking account this game, Fenerbahce did also show game where it had high possession of game but didnt do much at front with providing pressure to opponent apart Gokhan Gonul post.

On other hand, Hatayspor did complete game without any single shot with focussing too much into defensive, but taking account it was visible it tactics for such game and not conceding goal when playing with 9 men for 20 minutes, it could be arranged that. Therefore, despite of weak attacking game, Hatayspor been side which got point.

Fenerbahce has provided in overall very poor game without providing much danger to Hatayspor which is more worrying when taking account that it played with 9 men for 20 minutes. This performance doesnt provide much optimism against Galatasaray right now.

Galatasaray provided strongest start of this new season.

With looking into performances of Galatasaray against Gaziantep, Neftci Baku and lastly Basaksehirspor and comparing with other clubs, it could be noted that team did provide most strongest and organised start of the season.

In fact, all of the aspects which it was lacking in the end of the previous season seems to be solved with team providing forward seeking performance which it continued against Basaksehirspor especially during 1st half. It is especially important for side to realise that whole team, regardless if player did provide good or bad performance in previous season and also newcomers without doubt are showing good and confident performance keeping their mistakes. In fact, only issue which been present has been goalkeeper as side did concede goal at each game since injury of Fernando Muslera but on this game Fatih Ozturk did provide confident performance saving important shots from opponents especially towards end of the game and does get promising view for upcoming games without doubt.

Therefore, Galatasaray would be having difficult game in this week against Hajduk Split at Europa League 3rd qualifier and Fenerbahce but it would be looking on this game with full confidence.

Basaksehirspor needs to improve until its not too late for them

Basaksehirspor on other hand provides total opposite performance from previous season end which it ended with title, as it doesnt provide strong performance and apart of losing 2 games, even more importantly didnt yet score goal.

One of the arguments from Basaksehirspor is that their also started previous season with 2 losses, but it needs to be remembered that all of title contenders did have poor start of previous season and continued in duration of whole season. It would be unclear if it would be like that and its true that there are 38 games left, but very good start would not bring you title but very bad start could cost your title as we saw many times. Still, its not too late but it needs to solve its performance as not only poor season would be effected but also humiliating performance at Champions League which would do damage not only to them but reduce coefficient of the Turkey. Hence, it does look like side needs to solve its attacking game especially.

This is still early days of season, but Basaksehirspor still needs to find solutions of this performance if it doesnt want to have dissapointing season.
