What happened in Turkish football today? 06/05/2020

Super League will be resumed on 12th June.

TFF CEO Nihat Ozdemir has announced that leagues would be resumed in Turkey from 12th June, and even through this date could be changed due of behaviour of virus all actions would be done on this being as set date.

Starting date of 12th June has been circulating for long time and with new cases going into decline in the country it does look to be now much more realistic day by each day but once again it could not be set as definitive due of its being unclear how virus would be spreading. According to TFF CEO Nihat Ozdemir, their would be also focussing to complete this season on end of the August with playing in normal schedule with games during each week. Ozdemir in addition has stated that brochure on how Covid-19 could be prevented brochure would be announced which without question would be very interesting document as their are questions what actions would be during whole game to prevent spread of virus as football as known is contact sport. Another question meanwhile is also being answered is been if supporters would be allowed, and as expected no supporter would be accept until the end of this season.

Therefore, for now all focus would be given to 12th June and as long as virus will not affect country it would be starting on that day.

Health Minister has given responsibility to restart league to TFF.

Turkish Health minister Fahrettin Koca during his press conference providing latest developments regarding of fight against Covid 19 in Turkey, has provided an interesting statement that decision to restart season league on 12th June is being made solely for themselves and their would take whole responsibility.

Its interesting to see the part of responsibility would be entirely of TFF, which could be seen possibility of their being disagreement and TFF pushing for its own decision. Without doubt, taking whole responsibility clearly means that I as body would not take any blame of things would be going wrong and whole blame would lie with TFF. Therefore, this statement could be seen that Koca was possibly against restart of Super League or at least suggested to wait more while Ozdemir has been pushing for leagues to be restarted. In all fairness, taking account reluctance of Ozdemir to postpone league 2 months ago, this could be scenario which did actually take place.

Therefore, there is possibility that TFF didnt want for leagues to be resumed on first place but Ozdemir has pushed for it to be taking place.

TFF needs to make clear plan on how games would be played in this Covid19 period.

High number of head coach from Super League sides are showing some worry for leagues to be restarting not being sure if its save to restart season on June and equially crucially want to be known for actual guidelines during game to prevent virus to spread and what actions will be took if infection would be spread at game.

Even through on 1st glance TFF CEO Nihat Ozdemir statements has been providing high number of information, it didnt much provide what was not known arleady and still didnt provide clear information what measures would be taken to prevent virus spreading during football games. For instance, he did state that TFF does have 9 alternative plans if league would not be able to resume but stated it didnt have any discussions if their would be 2nd wave of Covid 19 in country. This statement, in our view, is being unacceptable as TFF needs to go through all of this scenario and taking account that for 2nd wave to happen chances are high. Stating that it shouldnt be surprise since TFF does lack strong planning skills as could be seen from recent season. TFF hence would be in big pressure when leagues would be started to make things go smoothly.

Now all focus would be given to see what kind of plans does TFF has when leagues would be resumed.
