What happened in Turkish football today? 21/05/2020

Test results during non-curfew days are more crucial for 12th June start date.

Following Turkish Football Federation meeting with Clubs Union, TFF CEO Nihat Ozdemir has announced that all clubs did agree for leagues to be resumed on 12 June but added that final decision would be announced on 28th May.

It needs to be noted that whole Turkish society is waiting how virus would be spreading during Eid Mubarek which would be during this week and days which would be following as Turkey would be entering to 4-day curfew starting from 23rd May. It needs to be stated that amount of new cases is currently been dropping with falling to lower then 1,000 new cases but this drop did happen due of curfew and last week did go up again up 1,800 new cases. Therefore, it would be expected for this to be raised again in upcoming days and once again following upcoming curfew, and numbers would hence have direct impact regarding restarting of the leagues on 12th June.

Everything looks to be positive for leagues to be started, but as been noted before test results from days when their is no curfews is even more important now.

Referees would go through 14-day quarantine right now.

TFF has made decision to put all of its referees to 14-day quarantine period prior to restart of the leagues to reduce spread of virus to be going spread from them to players and hence to reduce possibility for them to infect players and other members at stadiums.

Without doubt for leagues to be started on time and take place without any issues it would be very important to take such crucial and strict measures and one of them is without doubt role of referees who could also spread virus. With being on 14-day quarantine would hence provide security both to them to get infected and also spreading. It is expected that referees would be located in specific facilities where their would be having all items to be ready for restart of the season.

This decision could be seen as strict but its totally needed action during this new normal times right now.

If leagues to be played, then their should be relegation also.

Even through it could be partly understood why clubs which are at currently relegation zone would be called for relegation to be taken out this season, it would certainly affect negatively for rest of the season if it would be played.

Relegation matter could be only taken into consideration if leagues would be cancelled which would be highly expected but if games would be taken into place it would be unacceptable decision since half of the teams would be playing for no particular reason and could even to match-fixing issues at worst and lack of motivation which would effect to games when their play with teams at title race. It does look like Ozdemir managed to convince for those sides which didnt want for leagues to be played in such way from first perspective. Some days ago he said request to postpone leagues is laughing matter, but in all fairness this openning of taking away relegation is even more.

Therefore, either complete season in way it supposed to be or dont include relegation but cancel whole season.
