What happened in Turkish football today? 15/08/2018
Fenerbahce didnt manage to beat Benfica even through it wasnt hard opponent as expected.
Fenerbahce didnt manage to qualify to Champions League proper for 10 years time and has had number of unlucky periods at the qualification during this period as it didnt manage to get to the play-off round with losing to Benfica with 2:1 aggregate scoreline.
It was known that Fenerbahce would have difficult time at this tie as Benfica was expected much more difficult and tough opponent but it needs to be stated in all fairness that Benfica did provide a view that it is beatable team. However, 2 simple conceded goals at both legs has led Fenerbahce to get eliminated even through their was will and good work by number of players. However, it needs to be stated that Mathieu Valbuena and Giuliano were far from their level of performance during the game and didnt provide much fighting spirit which was expected by them, and youth players such as Baric Alici and Eljif Elmas among Alper Potuk has managed to show better performance showing signs that their want to win this game. Fenerbahce still has good reasons to look optimistically for this season, however their are still showing some habits in 3 games which Phillip Cocu needs to solve without doubt.
Fenerbahce has been qualified to Europa League group stage and has more than 1 month until resume of its European campaigns and until then with Super League games it would have chance to improve performance.
Besiktas needs to be careful as LASK would come out with belief to get win.
Besiktas would be aiming to turn its 1:0 scoreline which was gathered during Europa League 3rd qualifying round 1st leg game at home ground into advantage as it would be meeting with LASK Linz in Austria.
Even through it is still favourite to get next stage and are expected to get to the play-off round of the tournament, it does has a factor of providing some hope for Linz at its home ground and likely hence waiting for LASK to provide much more attacking focussed performance. Therefore, Besiktas would be aiming without doubt to be careful with defence but being aware of level between teams would be looking from beginning to look for chances to find crucial away goal and make game to be played more relaxed manner and make themselves one step closer for the play-off round. It needs to be remembered that field condition is not been at great level during 1st leg game and with Besiktas always aiming to provide attacking performance it wasnt able to get much better scoreline. Still LASK even through is underdog it is capable to make some surprises towards Besiktas hence team needs to be careful as game progresses.
Besiktas are coming out as strong favourite during 2nd leg of LASK Linz but due of 1st leg results it needs to be aware that their opponents would take their chance.
Basaksehirspor needs to find an early goal to make their task easier.
Basaksehirspor would have difficult task against Burnley during Europa League 3rd qualifying round 2nd leg as it would be coming to game after drawing 0:0 at Istanbul and would now aim for away goal but it would be against passionate English supporters.
With taking account supporters factor, it needs to be stated that Burnley has got better advantage from 1st leg game which has ended with goalless draw and without doubt would play much more agressive football. Even through Burnley will not be referred as top team it is participating at Premier League and does play against strong teams in regular basis so it more experienced at this level while Basaksehirspor for long time does get unsatisfying results at Europe compare to domestic league. Still, Basaksehirspor are aware that it has advantage of away goal and would be using this into its own advantage with having an opportunity to find an early goal which would be only provide pressure to Burnley while Basaksehirspor can play calm game which it manages to do well. Finding this early goal, with taking account that Emmanuel Adebayor would be playing at the day would make things much easier for them for sure.
Hence, Basaksehirspor would be aiming to find an early goal to raise their chances as each passing minute would provide focus of Burnley fans stronger and push team forward.
