What happened in Turkish football today? 03.11

Champions League is not same level as Turkish Super League

Galatasaray has learned once again that Champions League level is not same as Turkish Super League by losing to Benfica with 2:1 scoreline in Lisbon. However, it is important to state that performance by Galatasaray was very high and possibly one of the best games team has played since the start of the season.

Quit rightly, some people who were watching game might find the loss of Galatasaray to be unfair but the quality of Benfica of today game should not be ignored. Both clubs had played high quality game where Benfica using home soil advantage was a bit more lucky then its Turkish opponents.

Galatasaray of course had many shances especially one at the last minute by the Yasin Oztek,  but the great save by Benfica goalkeeper, Cezar has stopped for the goal to pass goal line. In overall, club head coach Hamza Hamzaoglu should be proud of performance by his team and keep in mind it still has a  chance to qualify to knockout stage as it is only 3 points behind 2nd place Atletico Madrid.
Galatasaray has provided high quality game which will only help them in upcoming games both in league and Europe.

Referee suggestions to delay games 10 minutes is more than reasonable.

Central Committee of Referees in Turkey are planning to start games 10 minutes later as planned, as  a sign of protest of the treatment Cagaday Sahan and his assistants recieved at the game against Trabzonspor and Gaziantepspor during 10th week game in Super League.

As been mentioned several times, referees are also humans and can make mistake and this treatment of locking them at stadium for 4 hours in Trabzonspor stadium is beyond understanding. Therefore, it should be treated as normal for this reaction to be given by the Turkish referees.

Previously, in Turkey referees did make similar protests but it should be longest do date in sense of delay of the game. More importantly, committee will show support of  this to take place and raise awareness to the football clubs, adminstrators, observers and fans.

Yusuf Simsek ban of 7 games affects Antalyspor of not getting good results lately.

Despite of coming League One (second-tier in league system) in this season, due of tranfers made this summer especially buying Samuel Eto'o, Antalyaspor was expecting to get very good results and at least be at top half of the league.

Currently team is at 10th position but even important note its losing points back-to-back in recent games. This factor is raising some concerns quite naturally among adminstrators of the club, and hence put Yusuf Simsek position as head coach into danger.

However, due of ban by Professional Football Disciplinary Committee of 7 games, of which 2 has been done by Yusuf Simsek arleady, it is hard to make some crucial changes at game as he has not direct control of the game as it progresses. As I tend to write in blogs, Antalyaspor should be patient with Yusuf Simsek especially taking into condition he is in right now.
