What happened in Turkish football today? 05/08/2020

Basaksehirspor didnt provide full concentration to Copenhagen game.

Basaksehirspor has been relegated from Europa League with losing to Copenhagen during last 16 stage 2nd leg game with 3:0 scoreline and hence didnt keep its advantage from 1st leg which it got with 1:0 scoreline as an early goal conceded by side did play direct role with this outcome.

One of the possible reasons for this outcome could be for certainty which was provided by club and media that it would be going through this stage from 1st leg result and should be more focussed to Manchester United. It needs to be noted that this stance with over confidence did play lots of damage for Turkish clubs for years in Europe. This overconfidence and loss of concentration could be seen from start of the game as it didnt concede an early goal on 4th minute from Wild, even through this are minutes were when it needed to provide most organised game. Without doubt Basaksehirspor which is famous for its organised defence been pretty poor and didnt provide right reaction. Even through it did aim to get back to game after both goals it didnt provide effective game which led for Copenhagen to get confident win.

Copenhagen compare to Basaksehirspor has been much more concentrated and effective compare to its opponents and did provide strong attacking game hence showing that it wanted to get to Final 8 mini-tournament in Germany much more.

Basaksehirspor did provide some poor performance on this gane which could be due of lack of concentration for this game but it does make that side would have some issues at Champions League for next season and would need to focus in solving those issues.

Galatasaray has signed Arda Turan for 1+1 years

Arda Turan has returned to his old club as it was among most anticipated transfers during whole past 2 years as player has signed 1+1 years as it does look that all parties did end all of its disagreements which their had between themselves.

In fact, during past season there were scenes where Arda Turan did come closer to Galatasaray head coach Fatih Terim to kiss his hand, sign of respect in Turkey, previous season which also been first sign of solving of old issues between them and hence raised some transfer possibilities but didnt happen due of some protests from some number of supporters and also CEO Mustafa Cengiz. However, it is reported that sides did make deal this time and there was contract for 1+1 years. With taking account age of Turan, it is expected that he would be also his career which would be right place to do so as he made his name at this club do world-class player and did state many times that he is strong Galatasaray supporter and would like to play in this club.

It is reported that sides didnt make deal regarding of salary with Arda Turan is willing to play for any salary due of his connection with this club.

Mert Cetin being loaned to Hellas Verona

Hellas Verona has loaned Roma player Mert Cetin even through big clubs did show some interest with signing him also but in long run this could be right decision to be made by player for his future and development he could show in future seasons as he would stay at top club.

Staying in Italian league, even through playing at weaker side would still provide chance for him to get more playing time and show skills and stay being on view of football followers as he would be at top league. Even if he moved on loan to big Turkish club he would not recieve as much opportunities for future career due of less interest to Super League even through it is growing in recent seasons. Without doubt, this would allow Cetin to provide much stronger performance and recieve playing time which could mean he could return to Roma and become much more key player at Italian side if he proves himself at Hellas Verona and develop as player.

Hence, staying at Serie A for Mert Cetin even through in much less high aim could turn out as advantage for him as he would enjoy much more playing time next season very likely.
