What happened in Turkish football today? 10/08/2020

Besiktas has been drawn against PAOK at Champions League 2nd qualifier.

Besiktas has been drawn against Greek site PAOK at Champions League 2nd qualifying round which is due of Covid-19 would be taking place with single game and sadly for Besiktas game would be played at Thessaloniki, Greece either on 25/26th August.

As it is known,  with Trabzonspor recieving 1-year ban from UEFA for not following FFP guidelines, Besiktas has taken spot of them and would be starting its 2020/21 campaign with Champions League 2nd qualifier game on 25th/26th August. Due of qualification starting later then usual, due of lockdown which took place due of Covid19, qualification until play-off stage would be taking place with single games. This would mean that sides would need to provide specific attention when games will be taken and will not be having 2nd chance which could be an advantage and disadvantage. For games, to be taking place would be seen as disadvantage but since games would be played without supporters, PAOK will not have huge advantage. Besiktas did lose some key players during this summer transfer window and should be aiming to sign players until this game.

Besiktas would have small advantage with experience and squad but it needs to be prepare for game strongly for sure.

Gaziantep has signed Bursaspor player Caglar Sahin Akbaba

Gaziantep has transferred Bursaspor player young goalkeeper Caglar Sahin Akbaba for 4-years and without doubt continues this transfer politics of focussing into potential players from Turkey of all clubs.

Without doubt, Gaziantep which did have good season taking account its been 1st season since promotion, would be aiming to show even better performance and to achieve that without doubt it would be needing to have confident and strong goalkeeper. It needs to be noted that Akbaba did provide some good performance at his club during previous season at lower league and proved himself to be quality player. Therefore, this transfer would provide lots of strength for Gaziantep next season with its aim to provide strong performance which is capable. In all fairness, it is not expected for player also have issues with getting adapted to Super League.

Hence, Gaziantep with this transfer did strength its goalkeeping position and did provide investment for its future.

Basaksehirspor has extended contract with Ugur Ucar for 1 year

Basaksehirspor has extended contract with its player Ugur Ucar for 1-season and despite of not recieving lots of playing during previous season does provide strong performance with his experience.

Basaksehirspor CEO Goksel Gumusdag did mention that his main aim with club would be to keep its current squad as most intact it can during this summer transfer window and does provide priority to extenting with current players. Following Mehmet Topal, it now has extended contrect with Ugur Ucar. Ucar as it is known didnt provide much gaming time in previous season but does have some quality and strong experience which without doubt played important role for such decision as it does provide strong trust to its current squad for Champions League.

It is right decision to keep its squad which won league title but it does need to strengthen squad for Champions League though.
