What happened in Turkish football today? 28/08/2020

Squad for Nations League has been announced.

Turkish National Team squad for Nations League openning 2 weeks against Hungary and Serbia has been announced and as was case during Euro2020 qualifiers and was expected to be been dominated by players which are playing outside Turkey.

With this being also first international games on 2020, due of Covid19 lockdowns and pandemic period, it is hard to be certainly sure how national teams are being situated right now, with main gains for such decision has been injured players such as Merih Demiral and some others. Still, with Turkey providing pretty poor performance at previous tournament with being relegated to lower league, but then staying at League B due of changes of format it would be aiming to aim for top spot and get to the top league. This squad, including specifically this one which been called for upcoming games is being on strong condition and could fight. Even through this games are played before start of new season, previously did end pretty recently.

Therefore, this is being new chapter for Turkish National Team as their aim to continue its success for Euro2020 qualifier and get impressive results at Nations League.

Rizespor signs Loic Remy for 2+1 years

Without doubt one of the most discussed and unexpected transfer news not only for today but possibly of whole summer transfer window could become Rizespor signing of Loic Remy for 3+1 years.

It is even possibly to state that this is being biggest signing of Rizespor in its own history as its gets one of the most known player 33-year old Loic Remy who even through is getting close to ending his career still can provide some high level performance and upcoming years which could be seen from 2+1 year contract.Interesting aspect of this transfer is been that, as Remy states himself, he did recieve some offers from well-known clubs from Turkey and Europe but decided to join pretty mediocre side in the league. One of the main reason could be that compare to other sides, Rizespor were willing to provide him starting 11 role where he would provide direct role in performance and also help for teammates especially young ones to develop. Surely, this transfer would provide strong role with getting get good results in upcoming season.

Rizespor did get great player but its important for Remy to return this favour by showing good performance and fulfill expectations.

Its uncertain of situation of supporters at stadiums even if TFF gives date of October.

Following draw for Super League, 2020/21 season it was turned out for first 5 weeks to be dominated games by clubs which expected to be title race competitors for upcoming season, which raises for introduction of supporters before October.

Even through logic that football is more enjoyable with supporters and would affect more positively to club economy, it needs to be stated that we are entering to uncertain period as cases rises in Turkey and around Europe, with some restrictions, mostly unwanted but needs to be done are being put into place. Interestingly TFF CEO Nihat Ozdemir looks to be aware of this situation. As TFF earlier this week has stated that 30% of supporters would be allowed to fill stadium capacity and even through it is obvious that circumstances could change, it was provided as statement. However, during today's interview Ozdemir stated that federation wants for 30% capacity to be filled. Ozdemir has stated earlier that he wants for previous season to be ended with 10% of supporters and also Turkish Cup final but it didnt happen. Therefore, how Covid19 would act and signs it would give for 2nd wave would provide decision for such crucial decision.

Back when virus was most agressive in spring, our blog did state that virus dominates decision and what is wanted could not meet with what needs to be done and its same for this decision too.
