What happened in Turkish football today? 13/12/2019

Basaksehirspor has ended tough group as leaders.

Basaksehirspor with beating Borussia Monchengblach with 2:1 scoreline during last group stage game at Europa League, with last minute goal from Enzo Crivelli, didnt only provide historical achievement for club to get to the knockout stages but also provided huge service to Turkish football.

With Borussia Monchengblach coming to game as leaders of the Bundesliga and beating Bayern Munich during last week games it was expected that their would be strong favourites and did in fact found 1st goal. But it needs to be noted with Basaksehirspor strong comeback did provide that their been mentally and physically prepared for game and when looking at the game in overall did want to get win more than its opponents. Without doubt Okan Buruk who has been seen as good coach in Turkey arleady did make an important step with finishing this group as leaders as there wasnt much expectations for them to get out from group. In fact, if some people were asked if only 1 club would be getting to knockout stages which one it would been hardly anyone would say. Therefore, this outcome and performance from Basaksehirspor needs to be praised and would be expecting to carry on good performance at knockout stages.

With Roma also surprisingly getting draw against Wolfsberger getting 1 point had put Istanbul side as group leaders which means it would be seeded team on 16th December last 32 draw.

Besiktas has ended Europa League for weeks now mentally.

With both Wolves and Besiktas coming to last game of the Europa League with formality, has led for both clubs to provide younger players but with Wolves still seeing European spring without doubt had led outcome.

It was visible that even through Besiktas young players did get opportunity to show themselves, their had lack of concentration towards game which has risen without doubt between 58-69 minute time span when it has conceded 4 goals, including hat-trick from Jogo. Besiktas poor start of the season has most effected to Europa League, and once club has lost opportunity for knockout stages, it has lost concentration and it would been tough to regain it regardless how much country coefficiency factor affected to them. This loss of concentration therefore did have direct impact on game outcome for sure.

Besiktas would now therefore be focussing at league and Turkish Cup where things are going well for them and would provide strong motivation for rest of the season.

Trabzonspor did have poor Europa League campaign

As been noted, in previous weeks also Trabzonspor main focus at Europa League in last 2 weeks has been to focus into youth players as their lost to Basel with 2:0 scoreline in last game.

Trabzonspor head coach Unal Karaman in interesting manner did state that he was glad with how players performed during competition and with team ending group stage only with 1 point, it could be either be to not affect self-belief of players or showing how poor position is club when coming to European level performance. Once again, it could be praised for providing some experience time for younger player in this competition, but when coming to results and performance it didnt pass test and needs to be working and preparing even more if it wants to show better European game in upcoming seasons.

Trabzonspor has been among clubs which been poor during this European competition and this should be focussed both internally and in general why this been case.
