What happened in Turkish football today? 26/04/2018

Besiktas has right not to come out for Fenerbahce game on 3rd May but it would have direct circumstances.

With TFF making its final decision about fate of the scandalous Turkish Cup semi-final 2nd leg game between Fenerbahce and Besiktas, one of the main questions which has been focussed is what would been reaction of Besiktas be for 3rd May game.

As been remembered, TFF has announced that game would be resumed on 3rd May at 20:30 from 57th minute at the empty field which in return has made Fenerbahce to be satisfied and possibly winner at post-game battle about situation of the game. It was known that Besiktas, at which game team head coach Senol Gunes has recieved 5 stitches for injury at his head, has wanted for game to be forfeited. Following announcement of decision from TFF, Besiktas made it clear that this decision has been unfair and their would not come out for the game. Interestingly, previously Besiktas did state that their would be respecting all of the decisions and will not affected by those decisions at all and do what is needed. This could be seen that Besiktas has treated the decision for game to be forfeited as common sense. It needs to be reminded that Besiktas does have right to protest game and not come out but that would be not only mean their lose chance to compete at final game in competition but would also not attend to next season competition.

Hence, as been stated at the blog yesterday Besiktas needs to treat issue also from that perspective rather than emotionally and hence this main focus for administration team to decide about fate of the game.

Turkey has provided its candidacy bid for Euro 2024 to UEFA.

Today was a crucial day for the Turkish football, as TFF has officially send details about its candidacy for Euro 2024, two days after its only but strong rival Germany has send their candidacy to UEFA.

Turkey candidacy as it is known has been supported strongly from parliament especially from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with him and also Youth and Sports Ministry providing huge investment to the building of stadiums. Therefore, in this area it needs to be in good position even throw Germany stadiums are also in good form. Turkey candidacy, in what could be seen as underdog compare to Germany, for similar reasons has also advantage. Germany has been hosting number of tournaments in its history with recently hosting World Cup, quite successfully. With currently both UEFA and FIFA are looking for diversity might put Turkey some strong chances. However, some political conditions which Turkey has also with European nations (this blog would not get into details) and recent events at Besiktas and Fenerbahce game are major issues  which would however affect both as image of the country, Turkish football and its candidacy.

Its needs to be mentioned that UEFA would certainly study all of the materials both from Germany and Turkey for its candidacy. Germany of course has great experience, but Turkey chances are not very low to win bid either.

Udinese are interested to transfer Tolga Cigerci.

With on-going developments of the Fenerbahce and Besiktas game, transfer talks which usually takes important section of this blog has been forgotten but with Turkish media once again focussing into this aspect, an interesting rumour came that Udinese interested with Galatasaray player Tolga Cigerci.

Galatasaray ex-coach Igor Tudor has signed contract as coach with Udinese few days ago, and straight away start considering to transfer Tolga Cigerci during summer transfer window. It is known that probably biggest winner at Galatasaray during Igor Tudor reign has been Cigerci who has started season in great form and has become one of the important players of the team, taking account that Fatih Terim doesnt provide similar trust to Cigerci as Tutor and also getting good relationship in sense of coach-player, it is not big surprise of interest which Tudor shows. Meanwhile, it became clear that Tolga Cigerci didnt attend to today's training session through feeling pain but as their were not any reports about injuries from player, it is speculated that this development is somehow connected to this rumour even through it might be case of feeling unwell from player of course.

It needs to be noted that if Tolga Cigerci would join Udinese in summer and once again join with his ex-coach than it would be surprising development at all.
