Astana deserved more to win with its surprising quality football
On yesterday's blog (29.09) it was mentioned that Astana was unknown team both for Galatasaray head coach Hamza Hamzaoglu and its players and therefore might bring some surprises to the team.
People who got chance to watch a game would realise that Astana played much better football especially during second half.
Following post-match evaluation by Hamzaoglu has stated that he was happy with 1st half performance but 2nd half the club decided to defend and gave hope to Astana. After this comment, of course questions raises why would Galatasaray, which is much stronger than Astana, start defend and not try to attempt to score more goals. Especially it is team to be known for attacking football.
Even through both goals by Astana were own goals, it should not be said that Astana did not deserve to draw (or even win), as it did well organised attacks only lacking last touch.
The only good side for Galatasaray after this game is for Bilal Kisa scoring his first Champions League goal, since he was a player who has played at mediocre clubs so far in Turkey.
Otherwise, we saw over-confident Galatasaray who seems to be certain that it would win game. Looks like Yasin Oztekin saying on previous day that team will take opponents seriously was not actually case. And yes, football pitch was not in great condition at all, however it will be self-deception to blame its defeat to the field by team and fans.
Coban resignation would bring change to Turkish refereing system, but not Yildirim announcement.
The day which was supposed to be dominated by Champions League game between Galatasaray and
Astana and also press conference of Fenerbahce and Besiktas prior to their Europa League games against Celtic and Sporting respectively was dominated instead of refereeing scandals.
Two very important events took place today: resignation of Deniz Coban as referee and press conference by Fenerbahce CEO Aziz Yildirim and vice-CEO Sekip Mosturoglu.
Despite of fact that both actions were taken in account of two seperate cases (Fenerbahce complaining about general refereeing and focussing towards decision to themselves while Deniz Coban was focussed on his resignation and decisions he made against Caykur Rizespor and Kasimpasa game).
As, been mentioned on Monday (28.08) blog, the problem of referees is been long-time problem in Turkey however action by Deniz Coban should raise important question and revision to the Central Refereeing Community.
Coming to the Fenerbahce CEO Yildirim and Mosturoglu announcement, unfortunately to them, it might low their image in Turkey. Arleady there are comments that club rather than watching its own problem made in game decides to put blame on referees, which could affect negatively to the team image.
Fenerbahce needs to play quality football, regardless if its loses
Today's press conference prior to Celtic game by Fenerbahce head coach Vitor Pereira and player Nani was very brief following classic lines which been given at pre-game press conferences. Stating that team will do its best to win game and showing respect towards Celtic.
One thing is certain for game, the problem with Fenerbahce is not winning or losing but more to the fact that the game of the team is below satisfactorily taking account quality of players at the team.
In table-wise it might consider as must win game for Fenerbahce, but I would argue that it is more important for team to play its quality team so in case if team does lose it would be at least be nice for eyes to its supporters.
Another important point of the game is Robin van Persie who seems to have disagreements with Pereira. van Persie will start at starting 11 and should provide best football to prove to fans that Fenerbahce didnt buy him for nothing and show his skills to Pereira.
Game against Sporting is big chance for Quaresma
Besiktas head coach Senol Gunes at today press conference prior to Europa League game against Sporting has stated that he is happy with whole team performace especially by Ricardo Quaresma. Undoubetly, the following comments were made to boost motivation of Quaresma especially him sitting next to him during conference. In addition, it was to show media that there is no problem between two.
Ricardo Quaresma has come with big promise to Turkey once again, but his useless red card against Trabzonspor and not starting in game against Fenerbahce raises some big questions of trust that club gives to him.
However, Gunes undoutebly decided to give good chance to Quaresma to prove himself against Sporting. This is great chance for Ricardo Quaresma to show his best football especially against the side which he is familiar with as he has played against them numerous time while being Porto player.
This is great chance for Ricardo Quaresma to become key (foreign) player for a team among Mario Gomez.
