What happened in Turkish football today? 04.10

Besiktas was lucky to play against Eskisehirspor today

Following pretty dissapointing European journey by Galatasaray, Besiktas and Fenerbahce, three of those teams had crucial games this weekend in the sense of the league and even more important to the motivation of the team prior to national team break. One of the teams which needed this motivation was Besiktas.

Besiktas has played against Eskisehirspor which is having pretty dissapointing season taken account that it the team which usually tends to be within top 10 in the standings at each season. However, this season club, apart of losing games is not also performing in high standarts. Therefore, in the viewpoint of Besiktas it was important to return to league with an opponent such as them.

If judging the game by Besiktas, it could be comfortably said in the sense of tempo and creativity it was one of the worst games of the whole season so far by them. However, since the opponent was playing slow game it was available to find two goals. Saying that after conceding goal in 87' minute, Besiktas has nealry lost two points as the Eskisehirspor attack prior to finish of the game has returned from post.

Coming to the Besiktas, once again Mario Gomez has shown that among all of the "star signings" of this summer transfer window in Turkey, he is most in form and mostly taking his performance and Super League as he start scoring frequently in league. It looks like he will best signing for this season in whole league if he continues like that.

Fenerbahce needs more organisation

In similar manner as, Besiktas, Fenerbahce was returning to the league following very hard game against Celtic and in addition the game was away and it ended with 2:2 scoreline. Once again arguably Fenerbahce had more harder opponent as Akhisar is one of the strongest team in the league, behind so-called "top 4" teams. However, Fenerbahce was playing behind its own supporters who were specifically active today.

In view of Fenerbahce, it actually started very good with organised goals by Fernandao, player in such a good way that you don't even wonder why Van Persie is not playing. In fact, first half performance even gave chance, with help of supporters, for Fenerbahce to win with more comfortable scoreline.

But during second half Fenerbahce changed its performance, where it became defensive and let Akhisar to attack. In addition, Akhisar has obtained penalty from handball which gave motivation to them. After 2:1, Fenerbahce lost motivation and Akhisar has gained it so its not surprising that scoreline turned 2:2.

Once again Fenerbahce seems to have difficulty to obtain its style of game, which seems to be fault of Vitor Pereira. One of the team which needs national team break now is undoutebdly Fenerbahce.

Snejder glad to sign extension with Galatasaray

Another big event of today in Turkish football, was extension of contract of Wesley Snejder for two more years at Galatasaray.

It was not secret for long time that Snejder was willing to end his career at Galatasaray, and with two year contract it seems he will ended it on 2018. Snejder also gave sign of this as he said during signing that his next contract with Galatasaray would be at coaching team, even as head coach.

In fact, extension of contract should have taken place back in summer but due of UEFA financial fair-play regulations Galatasaray needed to discuss about wages which would be comfortable with themselves after viewing its  financial situation. It was agreed that Snejder will recieve set fee of  7.5 million euro for this period.

Results:

Super League

Rizespor 2:3 Bursaspor
Eskisehirspor 1:2 Besiktas
Antalyaspor 0:0 Kasimpasa
Fenerbahce 2:2 Akhisar Belediyespor
