What happened in Turkish football today? 22/07/2024

Fenerbahce are clear favourites against Lugano.

Fenerbahce would be first team in Turkey which would be starting both 2024-25 season in general and also at Europe as it would be playing Champions League 2nd qualifying round against Swiss side Lugano where it would be coming out as strong favourite.

This would be also 1st official game for Fenerbahce head coach Jose Mourinho and without doubt he would be aiming to start his journey at the team with confident win both with performance and scoreline. It needs to be mentioned that even through players which did compete at Euro 2024 might not be at ideal condition after break, they would be available and it is expected that he would be starting with them. We might not see perfect performance from Fenerbahce but it would be one which would dominate game.

Meanwhile, if Fenerbahce would get through Lugano it would meet at next round much more tougher opponent Lille and if it loses it would meet with losers of Dynamo Kyiv and Partizan tie at Europa League.

Trabzonspor will play against Wisla Krakow and Rapid Wien winners if it beats Ruzemborog.

Trabzonspor would be playing against winners of Wisla Krakow and Rapid Wien tie at Europa League if it will be able to pass Ruzemborog at 2nd qualifying round.

It would need to be mentioned that Trabzonspor would be coming out as strong favourites against Ruzemborog but it would be slighter more difficult task for them at 3rd qualifying round as Rapid Wien especially but also Wisla Krakow are pretty strong team which are capable of providing top confident performance in such level but still Trabzonspor also has some strong favourites and hence its chances are pretty high. Trabzonspor it needs to be mentioned are still not in perfect condition but as been noted it would not expect to have much issues against Ruzemborog.

In worst case scenario, Trabzonspor will be playing against winners of Hajduk Split and HB Torshavn if it would drop to Conference League.

Basaksehirspor got an easy route to Conference League play-off round.

Basaksehirspor has been drawn against Ibani and Partizani if it manages to beat La Fiorita at Conference League at the both tie where it would be able to go through without much issues.

As would be expected at Conference League, Basaksehirspor does have pretty easy route to Conference League group stages as it would start its journey against La Fiorita and later meet with winners of Ibani and Partizani. Being much more quality side of all this 3 sides,it would be expected to have an easy route as long as it would be focussing into games.

Hence, Basaksehirspor shouldnt have much issues and should get to play-off round without much issues.

Schedule:

UEFA Champions League, 2nd qualifying round, 1st leg:

21:00 Dynamo Kyiv - Partizan (loser of this tie will play against loser of Fenerbahce-Lugano tie at Europa League 3rd qualifying round)
