What happened in Turkish football today? 16/01/2022

Fenerbahce been lucky to get crucial win against Gaziantep.

Fenerbahce has kept themselves at close range of Galatasaray with a win against Gaziantep at away game but it needs to be mentioned that it has been difficult game for a side which didnt show strong dominant game.

Foremost, it is important to note that it is difficult to beat Gaziantep at their own home ground as it tends to have very good record and actual reason why its being at bottom section of the table is unsuccessful performance at away games. When coming to game, it needs to be mentioned that win did come from Sagal two yellow cards within 10 minutes and also Enner Valencia scoring 2 goals with 1st one being from using an opportunity from opponents big mistake. Still, Fenerbahce did show pretty ineffective performance for 90 minutes and could even lose game if there wasnt red card from Sagal. Hence, it needs to be admitted that we are seeing decline from performance of the whole team and specifically Jorge Jesus in tactical game.

It would need to improve and get close to level it showed before World Cup break if it wants to win title without doubt.

Alanyaspor expected to provide some issues towards Galatasaray at Turkish Cup.

Galatasaray which are showing very good performance during recent games, would get back to Turkish Cup as it would be meeting with Alanyaspor during last 16 stage as it expects to carry on its impressive run in this competition.

Galatasaray didnt come out with 8 players which does include some of regular starters in the league mainly and hence could be stated would be focussed into more substitute side but it would be difficult game for them as Alanyaspor which does have unstable performance and would take Turkish Cup pretty seriously. It also needs to be mentioned that it would be coming out to the game after not playing in last week of the league while before that beating Trabzonspor with impressive result of 5:0 and hence would be pretty fresh and confident for this game. Hence, Alanyaspor could be providing some issues to Galatasaray but still when looking into paper and general form Galatasaray are being strong favourites for this game.

Galatasaray hence are favourites but their would need to be focussed and show full concentration and attacking game against tough opponents.

Konyaspor sacks Ilhan Palut

Konyaspor has terminated contract of its head coach Ilhan Palut after team has lost last 4 games including against Besiktas with 2:1 scoreline.

With Konyaspor showing poor results in recent weeks, club administration has come with decision to terminate contract with its head coach likely believing that team could be getting better performance in this period. When looking at the table Konyaspor is below upper half of the table and are not located too badly but possibly when looking how successful season team had on previous season, administration quite rightfully see this as unsuccessful season. Stating that there is no reports of names which side is looking for right now, so it could be seen surprising decision which does look like did come at short period, possibly being opened after loss to Besiktas.

Konyaspor decision has been unexpected but last 4 games possibly has run passions and seeing bright future with Ilhan Palut as team's head coach.
