What happened in Turkish football today? 15/01/2023

Fenerbahce got an important win despite of not very effective game.

Fenerbahce has won crucial win against Gaziantep with 2:1 scoreline thanks to the two goals from Enner Valencia and also red card of Sagal on 70th minute at the game which Gaziantep did provide good performance.

Despite of the win, it needs to be noted that Fenerbahce didnt provide strong and dominant game on the field with struggling to get into many chances. This ineffective performance could be due of the feeling under pressure following loss to Galatasaray on previous game and hence it did come out to the game which it needed to win. However, when scoring a goal as early as 8th minute due of opponent misunderstanding between goalkeeper and defender which led for Valencia to score towards empy goal, it would been expected for Fenerbahce to provide much more confident but this has not been case as Gaziantep did look more dangerous with Altay Bayindir playing an important role. In fact, it needs to be stated that if Sagal didnt recieve unnedeed red card this game could been played different during last 30 minutes. It also needs to be mentioned that newly-signed Samet Akaydin has shown very good performance in his debut and hasnt been part of any defence mistakes of opponent.

Gaziantep needs to be mentioned did show with its performance why it having one of the best records when looking at home ground as it did provide pressure towards Fenerbahce and created many chances. Main reasons for its loss has been misunderstanding which led for conceded goal and Sagal red card.

Fenerbahce did get an important win with showing good reaction following Galatasaray win regardless how ineffective its been and continues to provide pressure to league leaders.

Josef de Souza goal keeps Besiktas at title race.

Besiktas has got an important win against Konyaspor with 2:1 scoreline as it conceded on 1st minute of the game due of simple loss of concentration from Cenk Gonen but also found a winning goal at the last minute thanks to the Josef de Souza goal.

Despite of getting win, it is hard to note that Besiktas did provide a very strong and dominating game during 90 minutes as absence of Wout Weghorst has been visible as there were lack of last touching shot until Cenk Tosun has found a goal. Still, it was important for Besiktas players to focus into showing comeback after conceding such a goal in 1st minute and it did look for opportunities despite of not converting them. Stating that, with Cenk Tosun finding goal and also generally scoring in recent games does show that even through Weghorst as been noted has been felt, Tosun could be taking his role for now and possibly team tactics would be working on him in upcoming games. It was also good to see to score such an important goal on last minute at such difficult psychological season for him.

Besiktas with such win keeps themselves at the title race for now but as been noted before team is being on knife-edge right now.

Trabzonspor been better side but still needs to improve a lot.

Trabzonspor needed to get win against leadership contenters Basaksehirspor at own field for getting some bounce back from loss to Alanyaspor on previous week of 5:0 but more importantly to keep themselves at the title race.

Even through it could be noted that Trabzonspor has been better side and looked much more organised, it is still hard to state that it took full control and dominance and looks to be lacking pace which we have seen on previous season. To some extend for both sides playing for not losing did also affect to the tempo of the game and also willingness from both sides to show an attacking game. It could also noted that goal which did come from Bakasetas has been lucky goal due of simple mistake from Volkan Babacan, but in all fairness Bakasetas did show good game for 90 minutes showing willingness to create chance and hence to score and been among strongest team on the field. Still, even if Basaksehirspor did look to be pretty effective it still needs to improve its performance if it wants to stay at title race.

Meanwhile, Trabzonspor continues its unbeatable run at home but it needs to improve its away performance for rest of the season without doubt.
