What happened in Turkish football today? 01/01/2023

Besiktas did fail to provide high tempo performance for 90 minutes.

As we had discussed about most successful clubs in Turkey during previous year, today as we tend to do every year 1st day of the new year we would focus into most successful clubs which didnt fullfill its expectations for 2022.

It needs to be mentioned that probably most club which didnt fulfill its expectations has been Besiktas as it has provided pretty poor performance on previous season and has continued such negative performance in on-going season and despite of ending calendar year with good win against Adana Demirspor it still being uncerain how it would perform in short term future. One of the main aspects of Besiktas has been of not providing high tempo and effective game for 90 minutes as it tended to start at high tempo with Valerien Ismael but did lose that tempo during 2nd half which led either to lose crucial points or win in more difficult manner which it could. Right now, Senol Gunes tries to solve this issue but didnt do much on this area during World Cup 2022 and hence this habit and also lack of some players not showing their best performance does have outcome of this.

Besiktas does have signs that it would improve on this area for rest of the season but there much be lots things to be done for Senol Gunes.

Galatasaray didnt have successful year when looking as overall.

Even through Galatasaray are competing 2022 with 5 wins back-to-back and leaders of the league, it needs ot be mentioned that when looking at previous year in overall its not been good year for Galatasaray.

With appointment of Domenec Torrent which been advertised as assistant coach of Pep Guordiala for long term, didnt provide strong performance and adaptation to the league which without doubt did have impact to the scoreline. With change of administration including Burak Elmas to Dursun Ozbek and appointment of Okan Buruk does provide some positive impact with also some good transfers especially Mauro Icardi did lead for side to get some improvement but it did take time for Galatasaray as it did lose some points in beginning of the season. With this outcomes of previous season and start of the season hence could be seen as unsuccessful performance of 2022.

Stating that, Galatasaray could look to 2023 with much more optimism as it being side which is improving and are currently league leaders.

Sivasspor had poor season at league but showed good game in other tournaments

One of the probably conflicting side in this side could be Sivasspor as it did have good ending of previous season and later good performance at Conference League but it does show some worrying signs at the league.

In fact, Sivasspor did get into Conference League due of big concentration of the Turkish Cup during previous season as it didnt end also Super League at good form getting further from top spots and didnt show very good performance at the start of the season with being at the bottom area of the league. Stating that Sivasspor did provide strong performance at Conference League where it also didnt start group stage in good performance but during 2nd half has got crucial points and also with help of gained points has been low in whole group has ended it as group leaders.

Signs are being worrying for 2023 in the league as it needs to improve its league performance but there are expectations that it could provide strong focus to Conference League and Turkish Cup for rest of the season.
