What happened in Turkish football today? 18/06/2021

Turkish National Team player Umut Meras has become injured.

Turkish National Team player Umut Meras has become injured prior to vely likely last game for Turkey at Euro 2020 which could affect negatively for midfielding position as side would be needing to get at least confident win against Switzealand.

Even through Turkey did provide very poor performance against Italy and Wales with losing both games with 3:0 scoreline, it needs to be noted that it didnt experience any injuries during whole competition with Umut Meras being only player who did get injured. It needs to be noted that even through Meras didnt provide very good performance during competition, as didnt whole side in this tournament he does play some crucial role in this position with being regular starting 11 player so it could be having some negative impact to the side against Switzealand but it needs to be noted that it does have some alternatives in such position which would be used by head coach Senol Gunes.

Injury of Umut Meras would be seen as saddened news but even more dissapointing without doubt been performance of Turkey in previous two games without doubt.

Slavko Vincic been appointed to refee Turkey-Switzealand.

UEFA has announced that referee of Turkey and Switzealand game would be Slovakian referee Slavko Vincic at the game where both sides would be fighting for knockout stage where Switzealand is being in better position.

It needs to be noted that when looking in overall referees did show very good performance in the tournament both in overall and games at Turkey and it would be expected for Slavko Vincic to carry on this top level performance in this game without doubt. However, Turkish players did show some nerve cracking reaction in the end of the second half which did come from position which side is being during game and its circumstances so it would be important to reduce feel of under pressure and nervousness during whole game if it doesnt want to make it problematic game in the end.

So far, referees didnt interfere much to game and didnt go to VAR in high amount which is expected to be continued by Vincic in this game.

Turkey chances for knockout stage are very low.

Turkish National Team did provide without doubt very dissapointing performance so far at the Euro 2020 without scoring goal and conceding 5 goals and hardly got into dangerous opportunities during whole game and providing one of the worst, possibly even worst, performance among all sides.

Such poor performance in the tournament without doubt which normally would be seen as difficult condition to get into knockout stages pretty miracle as it need to win confidently against Switzealand and also wait for other games results, doesnt also provide image that it does has capacity to turn around such poor game around against Switizealand. This needs to be taken into account that even through Switzealand did show ineffective game against Italy which is being best side so far, they did show pretty good game against Wales which ended with 1:1 scoreline and such performance would mean without doubt that it would be difficult to get confident win. Meanwhile, Switzealand win would possibly help them to get best 3rd spot but also jump to 2nd spot according to how Wales plays against Italy in other game.

Turkey is being without doubt in pretty poor conditions and now would need to show totally different effective game against Switzealand.
