What happened in Turkish football today? 17/06/2021

Turkey has provided worst performance at Euro 2020 so far.

Turkey has continued showing poor performance during Euro 2020 group stage as this time it did lose to Wales with 2:0 scoreline, failing to get any upper hand and control of the game for 90 minutes.

Without doubt, Turkey didnt provide enough pressure towards Wales which did much better preparation for this game with having strong and basic tactical game which been focussed with using its strong players Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey to which it did get without doubt 3 points and has provided much strong opportunities despite of having lower possession. If during 2nd half of the game, it could be noted that Turkey did have some control of ball which it did use ineffectively, then 1st half has been went into waste entirely without getting control of the ball which only went to hand of the Wales. Sadly, it could be noted that Turkey has been weakest side during whole Euro 2020 so far without getting points, goals and even dangerous positions which means that team head coach Senol Gunes without doubt would need to go through as self-criticism.

With 0 points and -5 goal difference Turkey does have opportunity to get among top 4 spots of best 3rd spot but with such statitiscs and more important game chances are very low for miracle to happen.

Wales did show effective game against Turkey.

On other hand, Wales did provide strong and confident performance against Turkey with having simple but in same time effective tactical game focussing with Gareth Bale who provided 2 asissts during game.

Prior to Turkey, Wales head coach Rob Page did state that side does have planned game style against his opponents and it became clear is to use Gareth Bale and Ramsey into maximum effect with Bale despite of not converting penalty kick did provide 2 assists which did led for side. It needs to be noted that Wales compare to Switzealand did provide much more organised and attacking focussed game but some extend Turkey did allow them to do so with showing some passive game. Wales would come as underdog with group leaders Italy in the last group game but it can show some good performance at knockout stages if it shows similar game which it did against Turkey.

Wales did show some good performance from Switzealand but for sure Turkey did allow them to be played like this.

Italy has erased Switzealand in the field.

Switzealand didnt manage to provide any resistance against Italy during Euro 2020 Group A 2nd week game, as Italian side continues to be showing itself as main favourites to win this title scoring 6 goals in 2 games without conceding.

To some extend, it should be stated that with dominance with Switzealand which been shown by Italy has been very similar to how it performed with Italy with getting full control of the game and erasing Switzealand entirely into the field which without doubt could have negative impact into morale and concentration which it did to Turkey which to some extend could be good news for Turkey as this scoreline did possibly effect to Turkey game against Wales. This could be important as their would be focussing into getting best of 3rd spot even through with current statistics this could be very difficult task. Again, Switzealand didnt look effective against Italy but again it did play against strongest candidates for title while being themselves pretty modest side.

Turkey would now focus into Switzealand but with previous 2 results this could become formality game for them sadly with Swiss when looking both games in group so far despite of loss to Italy does look favourites.
