What happened in Turkish football today? 16/06/2021

Turkey put its chances for among best of 3rd spot into very difficult condition.

Turkish National Team did lose its 2nd game at Group A against Wales with 2:0 scoreline and has put goal difference into -4, which put their chances for getting best of 4 3rd spot into difficulty as it would need to win comfortably against Switzealand as good goal difference should be key for best 3rd spot.

One of the most dissapointing aspects has been that Turkey did come out with high hopes with being seen as best and most organised squad without providing too much emotions and focussing into showing more European style. But it does look that character of Turkey with playing with emotions would be staying in national team style of play as it did provided with playing in this style during both halves. Only difference has been for Turkey not being able to control ball as it wanted while it went into control of ball to Turkey even through to some extend its been allowed for Wales which did focus in understandably manner to provide defensive game. It needs to be noted however that during last minutes of 2nd half it was making high number of mistakes with passes and did lead for defensive game which did lead for side to concede goal to of such mistakes. It needs to be noted that Turkey even through did have some moments where it showed some attacking game, it didnt much provide pressure to Wales goal.

Wales meanwhile did provide highly concentrated and organised performance especially in defence but also in attack during 1st half, as it did look being side which knew what it tried to do and also did strong homework of Turkey, as been noted by Rob Page on previous day. Wales did provide strong organised game and in all fairness did get deserved win against Turkey with 2:0 scoreline.

Turkey without scoring following 2 games without scoring goal and conceding 5 goals, so now among waiting for good results it would also need to get strong win against Switzealand which would be very difficult task.

Cuneyt Cakir did show pretty good refereeing during Portugal and Hungary game.

Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir did provide once again pretty confident performance during Euro 2020 game between Hungary and Portugal with letting both sides to provide on-going football with having only one debatable decision.

With Cuneyt Cakir showing confident performance without much stoppage did raise once again issue of him providing two different performance when being selected for international games compare to domestic game, which to some extend did come out ironically from feeling less pressure as it is known Turkish football media and supporters tend to be providing strong criticism to referees. Only one debatable is being hand ball position which did lead for 1st goal to be scored as ball did come from Ronaldo to opponent player but it needs to be noted that this decision is being open for debate and hence should not be seen too much criticism as VAR which been observed during all of this season games didnt get too much into conversation with Cakir which tends to be case during whole season.

In overall, it could be noted that Cuneyt Cakir did show reasonable well performance during Portugal and Hungary which former won with 3:0 scoreline.

Galatasaray has drawn with PSV Eindhoven at Champions League 2nd qualifier.

Galatasaray has been drawn against tough opponent during Champions League 2nd qualifying round as it would be playing against Dutch runner-ups PSV Eindhoven on end of July.

When looking into other opponents which it could be getting into  Champions League it could be noted that it did get one of the toughest opponent, possibly even most, as Dutch sides and PSV Eindhoven are always having aims to be competing at top tournament and hence both sides would be focussing into reaching group stage as their would need to go through 2 other ties if their get through. Galatasaray did start pre-season training session earliest side to do but still has issues with head coach, some players and CEO election to be taking place next week but it would be expected for those issues to be solved when it would come out against PSV Eindhoven on 20-21st July as it would play its 1st leg in Holland.

Galatasaray would have time to get ready this tie for more then 1 month and would have enough to solve both internal and external issues.
