What happened in Turkish football today? 13/06/2021

Wales and Switzealand are beatable sides.

Euro 2020 Group A 1st week game between Wales and Switzealand on 12th June, has been ended with 1:1 scoreline at the game which did provide view that Turkey has capacity to beat both sides and get to knockout stages.

During game its been visible that Switzealand, compare to Wales is being slightly better side with creating high number of opportunities and getting closer to goals but it did have difficulty into finding crucial 2nd goal when scoreline been 1:0 scoreline which did provide confidence to Wales which did use its counter-attacks into effective ways. Therefore, when looking at how both sides performed, it did show that it wont be easy games for Turkey at all but when looking how it performed on previous games, excluding Italy game of course, it could get result which it is seeking for with Switzealand likely to be slightly more difficult game though.

Still, Turkey does have opportunity to get at least 4 points against Wales and Switzealand which should be enough for knockout stages.

Turkey needs to react positively following Italy loss.

Staying with Turkish National Team, it is been reported at Turkish football media that head coach Senol Gunes quite understandable been dissapointed with how side has been performed during tournament openner against Italy.

As been noted in our blog, its been expected for Turkey to lose to Italy but main issue here been is that its been away from its level of performance which would been expected from them, providing too much defence and not showing any creativity at all at the front. Without doubt, Italy did show best performance so far in the tournament and how their played did prevent Turkey to get any control of the game, but Turkey did provide some help to them also. Therefore, it would be important now to forget this game and open from blank page against Wales on 16th June in Baku remembering that it did lose its 1st game but reaction following this losses. To some extend, its good thing to lose against side which would remind level of side as it could lead to reaction in upcoming games as long as it does not lose concentration.

Turkey as been noted above can get crucial points both from Wales and Switzealand but it needs to play its best game.

Cuneyt Cakir will referee Hungary-Portugal game

Turkish most respect and well-known referee both in his country and around world Cuneyt Cakir been appointed to Group F 1st week game against Hungary and Portugal to be played on 15th June.

Cuneyt Cakir interestingly tends to provide much more confident and strong performance in European games rather then in domestic games, which could be mainly less pressure which been recieved from around Turkey from media, supporters and clubs. However, with both sides possibly going to focus into showing positive game as Portugal does come out as one of the title contenders, being title holders, Hungary on their part would be coming with all confidence. But with both sides likely to be focussing into playing game would make task for Cakir more easily especially if he would allow for players to enjoy game, issue which tends to be seen so far in this tournament meanwhile.

This would be first game for Cuneyt Cakir and lets hope he would continue to show top game which would lead him for even more crucial games in this tournament.
