What happened in Turkish football today? 01.06.2017
Konyaspor has made history by winning its first Turkish Cup in its history.
Konyaspor has lifted Turkish Cup 2016-17 title following win against Basaksehirspor with 4:1 scoreline at the penalties following a dull final game. Even through the way Konyaspor has performed didnt provide much excitement to the supporters, it was played with very good tactical performance which allowed to win such an important game.
Sadly, as been mentioned at the blog yesterday, behaviour of the Basaksehirspor, Konyaspor and some number of the Eskisehirspor fans did provide a big issue between sides especially with Eskisehirspor section throwing stuff to the Basaksehirspor fans and vice versa. Coming to the game, Konyaspor has won its first Turkish Cup competition and with its head coach Aykut Kocaman, that might leave to Fenerbahce job in several days time, with providing very smart tactical performance which was focussing into not raising tempo of the game too high. This tactic has worked and with the fact that game has been stopped a lot during 120th minutes didnt allow their opponents to show great game. With winning at penalties 4:1 it does also show that Konyaspor were more ready for penalty kicks to take place as their shown to be much more prepared for it. Taking account that despite of poor performance at other competitions, Konyaspor has shown great game at the Turkish Cup competition this season and has deservedly win the final.
With following win Konyaspor has marked a great history and once again has qualified to the Europa League group stage as Turkish Cup winners and would aim to improve their performance from this season with possibly having different coach.
Basaksehirspor didnt provide its best game against Konyaspor.
With Basaksehirspor not winning Turkish Cup final against Konyaspor during penatlies, it didnt only led for dissapointment and sadness to itself but also towards other 3 clubs which were expecting them to win to get either easier route to Europa League or with Antalyaspor case to get last spot for tournament.
Basaksehirspor during yesterday's game, where it was coming out as favourite wasnt able to get its own football and has control of the game. This could be explained due of great defensive tactical game which was shown from Konyaspor, but also the fact that it had lost chance to get league title with 1 week left at the Super League has certainly provided negative aspects to the team. It still has created number of great chances but poor performance at the penalty shoot-outs, much more worser with compare to the Fenerbahce semi-final has costed them to end season with a trophy. Still, as been mentioned several times during this season Basaksehirspor had experienced great season and yesterday performance, even through it is final game, needs to be seen as for players not being at their best.
Basaksehirspor surely would plan for next season to show good performance at the European tournaments and fight for league title once again as time would show if their be able to succeed to do that with smart transfer politics this summer.
Besiktas and Fenerbahce are fighting to loan each other players.
With season ending on 3rd June and summer transfer window getting closer officially, it does look like one of the fights between sides would be between Fenerbahce and Besiktas, as Fenerbahce tries to transfer Vincent Aboubakar and Besiktas to transfer Jeremain Lens.
Both of those players are currently loaned to their respective clubs, and both clubs does have issue to make an agreement to make transfer agreement with their respectfully clubs namely Porto and Sunderland. As an option, both teams try to loan with an option to transfer each other players and arleady have started negotiations. It does seems to be providing a good excitement for summer transfer window and possibly even more than their had competition between each other during season. It is known that there was also big fight between both sides for Trabzonspor player Mehmet Ekici.
Of course, the deal and stance of Porto for Aboubakar and Sunderland for Lens would be key issue and those both teams would make final decision, but this two clubs would fight to provide their best offer and this would be exciting fight for sure for people who like to follow transfers.
