Akhisar Belediyespor has won Trabzonspor at the Turkish Cup.
Akhisar Belediyespor has managed to win Trabzonspor at away game at the Turkish Cup last 16 with 1:0 scoreline with the result which could not be referred as surprise even through Trabzonspor were determined to get Turkish Cup title at this season. However, with good performance of Akhisar Belediyespor during this season this should not be treated as big surprise.
Both teams in fact had played a good attacking football and well-determined to win todayis game and it was observed that it was game between two sides who wanted to win this year Turkish Cup. This could be seen with a scoreline as only goal has come at 21st minute of the game by Akhisar Belediyespor player Douglao Ferreira with a good goal. During the game, towards the end Trabzonspor supporters has shown anger towards referee decision and has thrown items which led fans to throw dangerous items and led referee to add 8 minutes as game has stopped. The game was exciting and people who viewed game has enjoyed high quality Turkish cup game.
Trabzonspor CEO Muharrem Usta had stated since start of the group stage of Turkish Cup that club has aimed for the title and eliminated so early could be as unsuccess during so far not good season. Right now Trabzonspor could best aim for last spot at the table to Europe if it really forces at remaining games at the league. Another downside that Trabzonspor head coach Hami Mandirali has lost 2 games as he become head coach, previous one against Gaziantepspor also at the cup.
Meanwhile, Akhisar Belediyespor has managed to enter to the quarter-final where it has risk to meet big "3" teams from Istanbul or either against Basaksehirspor, latter might make them enter to semi-final other opponents could provide difficult task. Overall, Akhisar Belediyespor carries on having good season.
Galatasaray aims are Turkish Cup and Europa League
Right now its need to be agreed that Galatasaray focus for this season would by winning Turkish Cup and get the best result at the Europa League as all of the chances for league title as been mentioned numerous times before are far away. Galatasaray has continued its journey to Turkish Cup by winning at the last 16 game against Gaziantepspor with 3:1 scoreline.
Galatasaray assuming that it has serious problem internally and externally at the club, has played impressive at the game yesterday and giving us clues that team does get Turkish Cup in serious manner as it was mentioned in the blog after game Osmanlispor several times. The players had controlled game in what could be referred as difficult opponent and provided team play and nice game play of newly-transferred players, especially Martin Linnes. Only issue which could be seen is with Burak Yilmaz who still performs poorly despite of managing to score 3rd goal of the team yesterday.
As would be expected, Europa League aims would become clear after game against Lazio and result from there will surely affect to the performance of the Turkish Cup. For now, even through mathematically has chances to get league title it will give all its focus to this two tournaments.
Besiktas might make chose league over cup, or aim for double.
Poor performance of the Besiktas at the last two games at the group stage were raising questions of the perfomance by the team but the win against Bucaspor yesterday with 2:0 scoreline with a good squad has shown impressive performance.
Besiktas main target is undoubtedly would be winning long-awaited league title in the May but there is possibility that team might focus at the double, only if it decides to. Among big 4 teams, Galatasaray are seen as favourites to get the cup due of conditions and development of this season, but if Besiktas (and Fenerbahce) does decide to take Turkish Cup seriously that it will make them automatically as favourites. Besiktas performance at the game yesterday was best at the 2016 so far, but assuming it didnt play league games due of snow this should be treated as normal.
Besiktas would play its first game league game this Sunday against Gaziantepspor (unless if it snows unexpectadly) and would be able to watch how this Turkish Cup and this 5 point difference which Fenerbahce raised while not playing has affected to the team.
