Galatasaray had comfortable win against Gaziantepspor.
Galatasaray has managed to control Turkish Cup last 16 game against Gaziantepspor from start to end and with the scoreline of 3:1 has proven to everyone that it will take tournament in a very serious way. During the game, apart of conceding the goal Galatasaray did not allow Gaziantepspor to control game.
In similar manner as big Istanbul clubs, Galatasaray has also started with almost perfect 11 and with the players reaction today their have shown very high performance in the sense of controlling and converting attacks. One of the important issues was a goal scored by Sinan Gumus who has continued has rise of performance since New Year and slowly becoming a key player at the team. It is needed to say that Gaziantespor did not perform too badly at the game but the way Galatasaray has performed provided big issues for a team, and star player was Habib Habibou who has scored goal and also found some attacks during the game.
Galatasaray once again has shown that it would focus highly at the Turkish Cup and has serious aims to get until final with performance it provided in last two games. The performance of Martin Linnes was also impressive and it does look like he would become key player for the team.
Gaziantepspor meanwhile did not provide strong opposition even if it found some attacks and positions. Its highest note of the cup was winning Trabzonspor in the game which was not important for Trabzonspor as it had arleady qualified.
Besiktas got quarter-final of the Turkish Cup without much difficulty.
Besiktas did not allow for surprise to happen as it has won 2nd league team Bucaspor at the Turkish Cup last 16 game with 2:0 scoreline while controlling the game and showing that last games at group stage does not represent its aims at the tournament.
Besiktas has played with almost perfect 11 and has shown its superiority over Bucaspor with controlling game during from start to end. Even through the first goal of the game has come at the 61st minute, Besiktas had number of positions prior to this include offside goal scored by Mario Gomez. Besiktas has been criticised for poor performance at the last two games at the Turkish Cup, even through vaguely due being Turkish Cup game but with today even if against much weaker opponent has shown that it once again going to aim for successes at the Super League and Turkish Cup. Of course, the fact that Bucaspor poor positioning and to some extend first goal to its goal has lots morale and concentration of Besiktas which made them task easier in last 30 minutes of the game.
Besiktas has got an impotant win also prior to its restart of the Super League campaign as it didnt play at the league and poor performance at the Turkish Cup was running for club to lose concentration and morale, but it surely has regained with 2:0 scoreline despite of playing against poorer opponents.
Meanwhile, Bucaspor might now shown great football today but it should be glad with the performance of group stage earlier where it had ended group as leaders and has made positive results and developments at own football.
Fenerbahce gives signs that it might take Turkish Cup more serious.
After toughest 90 minutes at the Turkish Cup fo the Fenerbahce during last 16 game against Kayserispor, club has managed to win the game with header by Diego Ribas at 113rd minute. With the way game was played it does look that Fenerbahce will try to get until the end at the tournament.
When group stages have started Fenerbahce head coach Vitor Pereira had stated that Turkish Cup is lowest at the priority list for the team. As it might be remembered, our blog has stated that focus of the team could change drastically when knockout stages start and from first last 16 game yesterday we saw that both teams were providing its best to win a game. The fact that goal was scored at extra time and it was goalless up to then should not trick its readers as both teams tried its best to find winner at first 90 minutes of the game. Starting with almost perfect 11 and change of Pereira rhetoric by stating that club will aim to end league with maximum success proves that even through Turkish Cup is not main priority for a team, it does give attention to it.
Of course, results of the game against Lokomotiv Moscow at Europa League in mid-February will also give idea how it would take rest of Turkish Cup games, but from game yesterday it does seem that it could aim for title also at the Cup.
