What happened in Turkish football today? 17/06/2023

Turkey has been biggest winner at Group D but performance wise it hopes to provide better performance.

Turkish National Team has got very important game against Latvia at the last minute goal from Irfan Can Kahveci as side has almost lost crucial 2 points but Kahveci possibly found goal which could play an important role for Euro 2024 qualification in future.

Stating that, it still needs to be mentioned that Turkey didnt provide performance on their level and did make task difficult for them which has been due of not founding 2nd goal and also having some relaxation in some moments. It needs to be mentioned however that Latvia should be praised with its performance as it did provide its all to the game especially after 1:1 and couldnt provide better performance than that. Therefore, it could be mentioned that with looking into field with its performance its been dissapointing but taking account that it has won game and also Armenia has won Wales, biggest winner in this group without doubt has been Turkey.

Turkey hence would be coming out against Wales with chance of rising point difference against them to 5 points and hence make an important step to get ticket to Euro 2024 but it needs to show better performance.

Fenerbahce CEO Ali Koc has recieved lots of protests during general meeting.

Fenerbahce general financial meeting has been went into heated matter as club CEO Ali Koc has recieved lots of criticism and also protest from members of the club due of poor results in recent weeks.

Fenerbahce CEO Ali Koc as long-time followers of Turkish football and Fenerbahce specifically would remember that when he got his position has promised for side to be dominant side at the Super League but during his reign he didnt any title, only winning 1st title this by getting Turkish Cup. Therefore, there has been lots of criticism from supporters and also some members which has led for him to state that he would be calling CEO election only if there would be another candidate and so far there is none. Meanwhile, heated protest during Koc speech could be also related from club ex-CEO to call CEO election on previous day.

In addition, Ali Koc has stated that new head coach would be Turkish name possibly due of fact that recent seasons has been won by Turkish coaches.

Mecnun Otyakmaz has been reelected as Sivasspor CEO.

Sivasspor CEO Mecnun Otyakmaz has been reelected as club's CEO following an election where he did run as single candidate and despite of not so very good season on previous season, in overall side did show good performance in recent years even fighting for title race.

In fact, it is pretty unclear to state if Sivasspor did have good or bad season as when we look at Turkish Cup, where it reached to semi-final and also Conference League where it did get out from group stage but in same time did end Super League at low spot being close from relegation. Stating that, this season has been difficult one for them as they have limited squad and its being on average old side which did have issues to provide top level performance in all competitions. So, hence Mecnun Otyakmaz performance wise didnt necessarily have poor season. Right now the task should be to find new coach as Riza Calimbay has left side and it has difficult task to find name who would let supporters to forget Calimbay and also focus to reduce average age without spending too much.

Mecnun Otyakmaz taking account financial possibilities of club did do good job and would be aiming to continue to do so without doubt in his new reign.
