What happened in Turkish football today? 08/03/2023

Poor La Liga performance of Sevilla should not provide relaxation to Fenerbahce.

Fenerbahce would be aiming to repeat its historical achievement of 2008 when it has beaten Sevilla from penalty kick-offs at Champions League as this time it would be meeting with much more struggling opponent.

Without doubt, and even through it would be extra bonus for Fenerbahce to get a win which it would be seeking for, its important not to get scoreline which could provide some difficulties into 2nd leg as it does have home advantage in this tie. As been noted, Sevilla are going through very difficult season in La Liga but this could be turning into advantage for them as it could be providing much more focus for this tie and whole competition so Fenerbahce needs to take game equally seriously and prepare like it would be playing against strong opponent. Fenerbahce does have chance to get result which it seeks for but without doubt result of this game would be crucial for whole tie.

Fenerbahce are coming out as underdogs on paper but there are possibilities to get surprising result as it did in 2008.

Basaksehirspor would need to use its chances effectively against Gent.

Basaksehirspor would be resuming its Conference League with a game against Gent but it needs to be mentioned that Istanbul side is being currently on decline and would need to raise its level of performance if it wants to get into quarter-finals.

To some extend, Basaksehirspor has got most suitable opponent at European competitions at this stage but it is still being good side from the league which it just below top level leagues and sides are capable of getting some good outcomes. With looking into the form of Basaksehirspor, it is being very far from start of the season and this could have some negative impact to the game but it is capable of getting through Belgian opponent and hence need to come out in such awareness.

Its hard to call specific favourite, but Basaksehirspor would need to use its chances when it gets some during whole game.

Sivasspor tie with Fiorentina could be pretty difficult

Sivasspor would be meeting with Fiorentina who did come out as 2nd spot from Basaksehirspor group stage, but still does come out as favourite and with Italian side showing better performances at home.

Sivasspor with an experience at Europe and also some self-belief could provide some surprising performance and even get to the quarter-final but to achieve so it would need to be fully focussed and be on top level during 90 minutes especially at defence. In here it would be important for Sivasspor to come out in self-belief but still provide organised game which is very important against Italian sides.

Fiorentina are coming out to the game as favourites but Sivasspor do have chances for suprising results.
