What happened in Turkish football today? 05/02/2023

Galatasaray continues to dominate league beating Trabzonspor this time.

Galatasaray continues its winning streak rising it to 12 games back-to-back this time beating Trabzonspor despite of getting behind on 12th second and hence continues to show much organised and focussed game in the league.

Even through our blog, with possible due of dislike of some Galatasaray fans, continues to state that its not showing especially extraordinary performance but does get result due of showing strongest and most organised performance among other teams in the league. This has been case in such game also as Galatasaray didnt lose neither concentration and focus of its task even through it did concede on 12th second. After an equaliser from Dries Mertens which did come also in good time of 18th minute, Galatasaray did get full control of the game and controlling tempo which led them to control game on 2nd half and with providing such pressure did find a leading goal on 2nd half thanks to the goal from Mauro Icardi. Despite of poor start, Galatasaray didnt show much downsides on the field and only bad aspect of the game has been injury of Fernando Muslera as it is unclear for now how long recovery will be taking.

Trabzonspor meanwhile did start game in ideal scenario as it has found a goal on 12th second thanks to the Mario Gomez using an opportunity with Galatasaray not getting much into game mentally and it needs to be mentioned that Trabzonspor did continue following the game. But it needs to be mentioned that Trabzonspor did lose control of the game after 1:1 and couldnt find solution for pressure and good tempo from Galatasaray an issue which has continued during all away games. Taking account that Trabzonspor has lost 6 games back-to-back in away games and also not showing signs of improving this situation, it does look we would see two different sides away and home. Trabzonspor is being out of title race unless some unexpected losses will happen and this would also affected confidence to team in upcoming games.

Galatasaray hence 12th game back-to-back and doesnt seem to be losing any points in upcoming games and are becoming certainly to be beat in rest of the season.

Besiktas didnt believe they could beat Sivasspor.

Besiktas without doubt has lost game against Sivasspor where it would needed to win game if it wanted to keep its chance title hopes arrive but even more worrying it didnt show performance which would be enough for them to get thatw in.

As it is known for long time, Sivasspor away games especially during winter months has been difficult due of cold conditions and also field condition at the field has not been in great place. Even through those aspects did play some crucial role into quality of the game, it is difficult to state that Besiktas would have shown top performance even at ideal football conditions. As been noted by Senol Gunes following game, Besiktas did lack concentration and morale as it has only created one very good chance at the beginning of the game and has ended game without any shot at target. Besiktas players didnt believe they could win this game as it was more visible after it has conceded goal.

Besiktas chances for title hence has been reduced pretty low when taking account form of Galatasaray and other clubs around them and hence it could be difficult for them to keep motivation in upcoming games.

Fenerbahce will aim to make strong point against Konyaspor

Fenerbahce would be coming out to the 1st game following scandalous game against Adana Demirspor and with signs that team has lost confidence towards referees it would be interesting to see how it would affect.

Usually this kind of events does provide an extra motivation to team and more importantly togetherness and hence this factor could be providing some good performance and team would like to show dominant game and look for good scoreline. However, referee of the game Atilla Karaoglan incident which became clear when VAR recording were announced where he didnt listen to VAR referees to give yellow card to Besiktas player has raised also tension. Every decision by Atilla Karaoglan against Fenerbahce, especially wrong ones, would get lots of reaction at least from supporters so it wont be easy game for him also. There is also expectation for heavy snow to be taking place during game and even through Fenerbahce stadium field is being in great condition, it could lead to some difficulties.

Fenerbahce hence would both come out to keep its chance for title strong and also make some psychological point after events from previous game.
