What happened in Turkish football today? 01/10/2020

Glasgow Rangers used its opportunities much more effectively then Galatasaray

Galatasaray has been eliminated from Europa League after losing to Glasgow Rangers with 2:1 scoreline during Europa League with conceding goals within 7 minutes at the game where Galatasaray did provide game not far from opponent but didnt convert its opportunities.

In overall, it would be stated that Galatasaray did provide strong defensive performance against opponent especially during 1st half but it could be noted that Turkish side didnt become very effective in forward area which it been looked to be in early games during of the season. In fact, it could be noted that both sides in quality difference are been very close to each other but it did look like with stamina of both sides Glasgow Rangers did look to be much more effective in 2 halves where also opponent goals back-to-back did affect to their motivation while Galatasaray did lose both focus and motivation. Only positive side when coming to scoreline could be seen which been come from Marcao on 87th minute but with how both clubs played it was visible that this goal did come too early. Meanwhile, it would need to be noted that poor performances and outcomes of Turkish clubs as all of the clubs who has entered to European through knockout stages didnt manage to get to group stages. Right now Scotland are been closed to pass Turkey in country coefficient, with Sivasspor and Basaksehirspor plays crucial role here.

Glasgow Rangers did provide similar performances as did Galatasaray but using its opportunities between 50-60th minute did let them to get winning result and to addition side did use its opportunities for effectively.

Without doubt this outcome would dissapoint club and supporters which also aim to be at least at group stages but not using effectively its chances did cost them to get group stage. Right now Galatasaray would need to focus to domestic tournaments.

Trabzonspor would aim to carry on top performance against Gaziantep.

Trabzonspor are going to resume its Super League season with game against Gaziantep who in similar manner didnt provide good start of this season while Trabzon would be seeking to carry on its good performance from last week against Yeni Malatayspor.

Trabzonspor as been stated several times during this season didnt provide very good start of the season with lacking tempo however despite of not reaching into tempo which it wanted to in last week, it did get good win thanks to the 2 goals from Benik Afebe who got used to the side without doubt following with this performance and would be providing much more effective game against Gaziantep. With taking account that opponent didnt have good start of the season would be leading for them to be strong favourite but in same time it could provide issues as Gaziantep might see this fixture as turnining point for such poor start of the season. Still, remembering that Gaziantep does struggle against top clubs it would have some difficult issues without doubt.

Trabzonspor did gain confidence and motivation from last week game and would now aim to continue momentum gained against Gaziantep.

2 clubs which did compete at Europa League would be at Conference League next season.

With introduction of new tournmament by UEFA of Conference League which aims to provide experience to sides which doesnt get high level experience in lower leagues, TFF has announced lists of clubs which would be able to get into tournaments during next season.

TFF has announced that Super League winners and runners-up would be getting Champions League and Turkish Cup winners would be going to Europa League as Turkish Cup winners as their did before hand. However sides which were taking other 2 spots at Europa League, namely 3rd and 4th spot, would be going to Conference League instead of Europa League. Meanwhile, if Turkish Cup winners would be won by side which did get Champions League or ended league at 3rd spot, then 3rd spot side would be getting to Europa League while 4th and 5th to Conference League. This sadly could be seen as downgrade as Turkey did lose spots for Europa League which are more important tournament while Conference League is being similar to Intertoto Cup in sense of quality of side.

This therefore, could be seen as unwanted development which did come due of poor results from Turkish clubs in Europe.
