What happened in Turkish football today? 16.08.2017

Basaksehirspor has lost advantage but certainly showed high level football against Sevilla.

Despite of losing to Sevilla during Champions League play-off round 1st leg game with 2:1 scoreline and hence putting its chances to get to the group stage into difficult position its needs to be stated that level how Basaksehirspor has played deserves lots of the praises.

The game has been dominated mainly due of collective experience which Sevilla had which has played an important role for Spanish side winning 1st leg game but it needs to be stated that Basaksehirspor has shown very organised football with trying to turn this into advantages with help of experienced players. The fact that heavy rain had took place which has affected field for most part of 2nd half has also went into advantage to Basaksehirspor as it was able to use this into speed football. During the game it was visible that with level of teams Sevilla has been above, but
Basaksehirspor has comfortably shown that its difference between both sides is not that big. One of the best players of the game has been Elia not only because of scoring of goal but also trying to find lots of chances with his high speed he had shown today. Meanwhile, one of the key moments has been Napoleoni header towards the end of the game as if he could find goal scoreline would turn into 2:2.

Meanwhile, Sevilla as been stated above has shown its high level of performance and experience during the game but without doubt it had much more tougher time than their were expecting to have.

Basaksehirspor would now need to win at least with 2:0 scoreline in Sevilla during 2nd leg tie which does seem to be difficult task to achieve but today's game shows that it would try to provide this surprise result with their best football next week.

Vardar internal issues would make task to Fenerbahce against them easier.

Fenerbahce would be meeting with Macedonian champions Vardar during Europa League play-off round 1st leg as it coming out as much  stronger favourite compare to its opponents and in fact is expected to be easier opponent compare to Sturm Graz.

One of the advantages for Fenerbahce during upcoming game among having a better squad is also a factor that Vardar does have some serious internal issues. It was announced yesterday that its head coach Goce Sedloski has resigned from his position while its Russian CEO Samsonenko has announced that he would be selling his club in near future. Therefore, it does look like among physical factors there is also internal issues. Even through this kind of issues does affect sometimes positively to the team, it doesnt look like it would be case to Vardar who would coming out to game as less favourite even if things were fine administratively. In other hand, Fenerbahce would aim to improve its performance it has shown at weekend against Goztepe aiming to improve its poor performance and reduce mistakes some players has shown.

Fenerbahce as been stated does come out as strong favourite but also getting good result would mean that it would be coming out to very important game against Trabzonspor with high motivation during 2nd week game of Super League.

Security rather than solving issue decided not to allow away fans to enjoy games.

The ban of away fans during some high risk games which was taken away during last season has arleady shown some signs of coming back as security of Istanbul has announced that Trabzonspor would not be able to visit game during Super League 2nd game against Fenerbahce while Bursaspor will not be allowed to Vodafone Arena during 3rd week game.

With high tensions being present at the Turkish Cup, 1st league play-off games at the end of the last season and also during Super Cup could lead to this decision. There is belief among football specialists and security, which could easily be actual reason in reality, that those fans behaviour could be led by provocateurs involved at some groups, possibly even connection to FETO. Of course, this decision does raise some issues as it does provide questions of how credible does security work during games, in other words by preventing those events to happen it would be more productive and more to football spirit if the control has been made in stadiums and around it rather than allowing some innocent fans to enjoy big away game and give support to its fans. Those questions seem to be discussed a lot during this season as TFF does have issue, which it did have for very long time indeed, to solve those issues with fans and prevent some unwanted factors.

Until now, there is no word for this ban to affected to Istanbul derbies with closest being at 6th week between Fenerbahce and Besiktas. The decision made for end of September game regarding away fans would be very crucial.
