What happened in Turkish football today? 01.03.2017

Basaksehirspor didnt perform as was expected against Akhisar Belediyespor at the Turkish Cup.

As would been expected with the form of the Basaksehirspor both at the league and Turkish Cup, their were coming out as favourites for the quarter-final 1st leg game against Akhisar Belediyespor but the game has ended with 1:1 scoreline as the game has been mainly qualified with careful performance of both clubs at the 1st leg games.

It needs to be stated that during the game Akhisar Belediyespor did have an upper hand during the game in performance wise even through it has only managed to score during 78th minute while Basaksehirspor didnt show much attacking football with only having one good attack which their have scored during 24th minute by the Napoleoni. It needs to be stated that if Basaksehirspor will take its league title race fight than this performance could be related to this as it could put Super League into more importance as it is only team left as an opponent to Besiktas. However, if Basaksehirspor did aim to provide top football against Akhisar Belediyespor today than its drop of performance could be related to this.

Stating that this tie is still open and 2nd leg promises to be much more interesting with Akhisar Belediyespor will be having an away goal advantage at the game in Akhisar in one month time.

Sivasspor and Konyaspor Turkish Cup quarter-final 1st leg game ended with goalless draw.

Turkish Cup quarter-final between Sivasspor and Konyaspor has been ended with 0:0 scoreline during 1st leg, even through Konyaspor was coming out as stronger favourite compare to their opponents.

Taking account that Sivasspor is at the 2nd-tier at the Turkish league system and also Konyaspor having better squad it was expected that Konya side was coming out as favourites but it was not capable to get an advantage scoreline during away game. During the game both sides did create some number of good chances, with Sivasspor in some moments of the game showing upper hand especially during 2nd half of the game. It was not scared to go forward during the game while Konyaspor to some extend showed much more passive game without risking too much. Stating that 2nd leg game will take place in Konya, Konyaspor still has an upper hand at this tie.

The game in fact has been in classical way of 1st leg game where home team showed an attacking game while away has defended. With this scoreline it still close to call but with experience Konyaspor does have an upper hand.

Turkish Cup is only chance for Fenerbahce to end season with title.

Fenerbahce are going to restart Turkish Cup journey to the final with quarter-final 1st leg game against Kayserispor as this tournament turns slowly to be only tournament which it can aim for during this season.

Being out from the Europa League after losing to the Krasnodar at the 2nd round and being 12 points behind leaders, Besiktas, it has only aim to finish with any title at the Turkish Cup. In fact, it would been very interesting to see how would Fenerbahce at the game tomorrow perform as it tends to be only target for this season and only way to make number of fans to be happy. Even through Fenerbahce does come out as favourite to the game, it needs to be remembered that Kayserispor which doesnt have good season at the league did draw and win against their opponents at the Super League. In fact, the last time their met during 19th week Kayserispor has won with 4:1 scoreline. With looking at the performance Kayserispor in better form so its safe to say with performance wise that Kayserispor are coming as favourite.

It is reported that Fenerbahce head coach Dick Advocaat would be going to Kayseri for game with full squad which includes injured players so it would been interesting who would be playing at such an important game as it would be crucial for their prestige.
