What happened in Turkish football today? 07.03.2017

Galatasaray has managed to win Antalyaspor despite of things going against them.

Galatasaray has managed to get a win against Antalyaspor during Super League 23rd week in a very dramatic manner with last minute goal by Eren Derdiyok, Galatasaray head coach Igor Tudor being sending off to the stands and Bruma red card. All those factors show fighting spirit which was present at the game yesterday from Galatasaray and which has been lacking in previous games.

Both teams it needs to be stated did want to win the game due of importance for them and also provide destiny for their aims and possible participation either at Champions League for Galatasaray and Europa League for Antalyaspor. The game has ended with 3:2 scoreline which was related to this factors undoubedly. It needs to be mentioned that the first half of the game wasnt as exciting as 2nd and in fact referee for most time of the game has affected to the tempo of the game which was not good for both sides as he had stopped game numerous times. Also high number of injured players has affected tempo of game. But this couldnt stop Galatasaray getting 3 points. For sure, the hero of the game has been Eren Derdiyok who showed his full focus at the game and has scored 2 goals including last minute header when Antalyaspor in game-wise had upper hand. Meanwhile, reaction of the Igor Tudor especially when Derdiyok scored in 90+6' minute did show how much he wanted to win yesterday's game, probably even more than he did against Besiktas.

This factors which has been led for Galatasaray an important win would certainly provide an additional motivation and confidence for rest of the season which is has set an aim to end as runners-up and get qualifying stage of Champions League.

Nasuhi Sezgin resigns from Galatasaray CEO assistant position.

Following yesterday's win, the new day  has been started with announcement of resignation of Galatasaray CEO assistant Nasuhi Sezgin which was mainly catalysted from his statements following game against Antalyaspor.

Following the game, either due of mistake or done purposefully, Sezgin has stated that club has won some games purposefully either through he stated that he made mistake and he meant to state that it was done by outside powers such Turkish Football Federation and referees among others. It needs to be stated however that this statement could made him this decision faster or otherwise its not reason which would lead for resignation alone. It is known that Galatasaray CEO Dursun Ozbek administration is not going through great days both with the results at recent games and also financially as there is risk for team not to get to European tournaments due of financial situation at the team also next season, as UEFA might +1 option which is set to them. Taking this account it could be actual reasons for Sezgin resignation.

Since Dursun Ozbek has been CEO of the club back on May 2015, there was in total of 5 resignation with some of them being asked to come back and also termination of contracts of head coaches three times so far. This is a worrying view for the team which it needs to solve and Dursun Ozbek should be doing self-criticism even more after this resignation.

Basaksehirspor are still strong contenders for the league title.

Basaksehirspor carries on providing winning results as it is 4 points behind leaders Besiktas and right now are only opponents for title race and it is among strong questions if their are able to provide this race until the end.

Basaksehirspor in all fairness didnt provide top class football against Adanaspor when their managed to beat them with 2:1 scoreline especially it has very stressful moments in last 10 minutes, but as long it doesnt get losses it would be able to keep its aim for league title at least until 28th week game against Besiktas which could be decider for league title this season. It is observed that despite of reduction of performance slightly after new year, players are still focussed to provide good ending for season at this 11 games period and still see league title as possibility for this season and in fact if their had achieved so much good performance in duration of this season than it is still possible.

In overall, Besiktas are stronger favourites to get league title due of experience, quality and point difference at the league but season is still long and Basaksehirspor can provide lots of surprises for upcoming 11 games.
