What happened in Turkish football today? 15.03.2017

Besiktas are favourites against Olympiakos but it wont be easy at all.

Besiktas is going to have a very important game against Olympiakos during Europa League last 16 2nd round game where it would be aiming to use its home advantage following a slight advantage it got from last week in Athens of 1:1. It has capability to get result with using its home advantage and style of play at the game tomorrow.

However, it needs to be reminded that Olympiakos did show good performance at the away games which also includes 2nd round win of 3:0 scoreline in Ankara against Osmanlispor after drawing 1st leg game with 0:0 scoreline. It is crucial for Besiktas to provide full focus towards the game and play its usual game and certainly improve Super League 24th week game against Kayserispor where it has drawn with 2:2 scoreline while having very tough game against tough opponent. Even through it can be argued that Besiktas are coming out as favourite with all this factors, as playing at home, having support and general performance at the Vodafone Arena it doesnt need to take things lightly. Meanwhile, it also have problems at the back as Marcelo has become injured during game against Kayserispor and Matej Mitrovic who would play instead of him needs to provide at least same performance as does Marcelo to prevent Olympiakos to prevent goal.

Besiktas with so many factors does come as favourite but last game against Kayserispor does show that Besiktas is not perfect and its important for them to stop Olympiakos to use this weaknesses or even provide them.

PAOK plans to complain to Galatasaray for not recieving transfer fee of Garry Rodrigues.

It became clear that PAOK who has sold its player Garry Rodrigues to Galatasaray during mid-season transfer window and who has become one of the most talking transfers of this winter, has complained towads FIFA for not recieving parts of transfer fee.

The fact that Galatasaray had issues of playing towards PAOK was not known publicly until today and this news taking account economical situation of the club is not good one. But in all fairness this crises as it would been referred has been created by Galatasaray themselves as if their had paid fee straight away it would be solved without any compensation need to pay. If FIFA finds PAOK complaint legitimate, it would follow with compensation which could be at least half of the fee. This case, if its factual, does show that Galatasaray management at economical front does have issues as it is beyond understanding if team not playing taking account that PAOK has likely send reminders to team as it would be standard procedure prior to send complaints either to FIFA or UEFA.

This situation as needless to say its not good news for Galatasaray, and as a team it needs to get in touch with PAOK and try to solve this issue as soon as it can in mutual consent and without third parties as it could to bigger issue.

Twente wants to extend loan of Enes Unal for 1 more season.

It became clear that Twente has began transfer negotiations regarding of loaning its player Enes Unal for 1 year, as he has become among star players of the Dutch team right now and promises to be great future for Turkish football.

Providing very good performance in Eredivisie and becoming one of the key players of the Dutch side it is quite normal for Twente trying to extend loan period with player from Manchester City. This agreement would of course be more related to Manchester City if their would see that player is ready for English club or needs to get extra year in Dutch team. It will not be surprising if Manchester City administrators and head coach Pep Guardiola are happy with Enes Unal and might even consider to bring him back. Meanwhile, it might be advantage for Enes Unal to stay at Holland as he would recieve more playing time compare to more alternative and impressive Manchester City squad.

Twente would certainly do its best to keep its star Turkish player at the team and time would show how this would develop but for now it looks like Unal would likely stay in Holland.
