What happened in Turkish football today? 12.06.2016
Turkish National Team start to Euro2016 doesnt get into level which was expected from them.
Turkish National Team has provided pretty dissapointing performance at its opening game at the Euro2016 campaign and was in fact lucky to only end the game with 1:0 scoreline. With the past experience it could be sure that Turkish supporters and followers were watching excitingly until end of the game hoping that "classic" last minutes goal would come but it didnt happen.
In fact, Turkey has provided better performance with playing at same level against Croatia during the 1st half even through it could be stated that there was lack of creativity apart of great position by the Ozan Tufan. Goal which was scored by Croatian National Team player Luka Modric was high-quality ball and was hard to provide save from Volkan Babacan however problem was not able to provide right reaction after conceding that goal. Turkish head coach Fatih Terim towards last 20 minutes has went into more attacking football on mind with entering to field Burak Yilmaz and Emre Mor which did raise tempo but still provided lack of the attacks. Once again, Turkish National Team has shown that it does have issues at the attacking area.
Turkish National Team has always started its European Championship and World Cup by losing 1st game but this has always been against strongest opponent at the team but now it needs to play with Spain. It does look once again that to get to last 16 it would need to go through hard way by aiming for top 4 3rd place even through its too early to state that as we would see how other games develop.
Croatian National Team did provide great performance with creating much more chances and could in fact convert 2 more goals however in same time it didnt allow to provide much game for Turkey by wasting time. Corluka head injury was a serious one, but he has attempted to provide heroic moves by staying at the game for 2nd half and hence led to stoppage of time due of recurring bleeding. It would been smarter to substitute him even if Corluka wanted to play heroic role.
Czech Republic can give some tough time to Spain at other Group D fixture.
With Turkish group at the Euro 2016 being one of the difficult ones, the scoreline between Spain and Czech Republic game tomorrow will have direct connection to the Turkey chances to qualify to last 16 stage.
Spain are seen as one of the main favourites to end this group at the top position however as been mentioned at previous blogs Spain right now is not at its best form compare it to say Euro 2008 and 2012. Therefore, Spain has chances to lose points at this campaign and it can happen from game tomorrow as long as Czechs give their best football. Everyone at this group would surely need to give their top football if their want to carry at the knockout stages. Spain as it is known has lost its friendly game against Georgia which even through could be not seen as too dramatic as being friendly it does show that team is not at great form right now though. Czech Republic meanwhile has come from Turkish National Team qualifiers and did show some good performance despite being among team who could not stop Iceland domination.
At short, Spain does come as strong favourite at the game tomorrow but it is not as straightforward tomorrow and Czechs might try to get draw.
Galatasaray plans to provide fine to Wesley Snejder for interview where he criticises team administrators.
Galatasaray is going to give 20,000 euro fine to its star player Wesley Snejder for the comments he has given to Turkish newspaper Fanatik where he had accused administrators of his team showing lack of organisation at the team.
The following interview as would be expected has provided lots of anger and disbelief by Galatasaray administrators, and even through Wesley Snejder states that some of his words were used incorrectly it does seem that damage was done as he would recieve one of the biggest fines ever given by club player at the team. When analysing article where he stated that administrators were not doing job seriously it did however look surprising that club player would provide such strong criticism. It is possible that Fanatik had modified his words but still with this interview being taken without permission of club, Snejder now would need to pay price for his mistake.
This example just shows that players playing in Turkey, especially at the big 4 clubs, need to be careful with their communication with cunning Turkish sports media or their would pay big prices.
