Turkish National Team needs to improve a lot for Spain game.
It could be said that quite comfortably that Turkish National Team was way below its performance at its first game at the Group D Euro 2016 game against Croatia and has provided lots of dissapointment to its supporters.
Turkey can lose to Croatia as its being among strongest team at the group and in fact at the whole tournament but the problem was not providing enough effort at the game. All of the positive sides and will of the play which was numerously times identified of Turkish National Team at our blog and across Turkish media were absent yesterday. Hence the dissapointment rise from the fact that it could perform much better at the game because if it was best football Turkey can give than we would accept truth. Accept of the chance by Ozan Tufan, the team didnt create any chances and right now its need to wake up and find solution to this performance or the point which is needed against Spain would be very hard to be achieved.
Right now, Turkey to make things more certain at the group and has good hopes to get to last 16 needs to get at least draw against Spain which is not impossible task but it needs to improve yesterday's performance a lot.
Croatia has now some control at its destiny at the group.
Croatia has shown with yesterday's performance that it is at good condition right now with having much better control at the game. It could be argued, quite rightly, that Croatia did many cunning things to waste time especially at 2nd half. However, when it did have control of ball it knew how to use it.
The goal which was scored by Luka Modric is in fact a difficult position and not an easy one to save by Volkan Babacan, even through he did recieve some criticism by critics in Turkish media. It is saveable ball but the way it was coming both in sense of power and how it didnt bounce did make task harder for Volkan Babacan. Croatian National Team even through was going to forward and could find some more goals as game progressed was same time providing careful football and aimed not to allow to give Turkey control to a ball which it achieve to some extend. It does look like Croatia and Spain for now would be fighting for first two places but still the group is very open after 1st games.
Turkey didnt manage to overcome Croatia barrier but there is still two very important games to be played.
Spain is not same Spain as was in previous two Euros.
Even through Spanish National Team was playing much better attacking football compare to Czech Republic and won game with Pique goal on 87th minute, it could be stated that its not same Spain which was during Euro 2008 and Euro 2012.
Today's game has shown that if the team provides good defense agaisnt them during the game than it can prevent Spain scoring a goal. Therefore, Turkey should focus to the game mainly into defensive area if it wants at least to get draw from the game. Therefore, the task of defensive with one-on-one marking of Spanish attackers could be crucial one and it should mainly aim to create chances by counter attacks because simple mistakes at the back could led to position which Spain will just not forgive. And as Fatih Terim stated yesterday you dont get chance just to say "sorry" after Euro2016 games.
The role of defence and set pieces has become key aspect of the tournament so far and possibly at that game Selcuk Inan and Hakan Calhanoglu might use their chance to get good result on Friday.
