What happened in Turkish football today? 12/05/2021

7:0 win against Hatayspor has provided too much self-confidence to Besiktas.

Besiktas has put winning title into danger after losing to Fatih Karagumruk in pretty surprising manner with 2:1 scoreline and while losing 6 points in last games has led Galatasaray to equalise points with having only 2 goal advantage.

With playing against Galatasaray last week and also against Fatih Karagumruk among losing games and hence losing its strong advantage, did also provide poor performance which could be connected due of too much relaxation which their position in the league did give them and also high number of absences in the side of injuries. To some extend, it could be noted that confident win against Hatayspor with 7:0 scoreline did also provide too much confidence to side which did play this decline and Besiktas administrators making statement like side did win arleady win title did have negative impact to whole side. It should be noted that Besiktas still needs to feel itself lucky for Fenerbahce to lose against Sivasspor as their would be losing its leadership but now it has kept it but needs to keep goal difference +2 against Goztepe when taking account that Galatasaray would win against Yeni Malatyaspor in their last game.

Besiktas were expected from this blog to lose points from Fatih Karagumruk due of trauma but it does look like it didnt to any work to solve this out for this game.

In 3 days period Galatasaray closed 6 point difference with Besiktas.

Only 2-3 weeks ago at title race, due of positioning of standings, Galatasaray has been seen as outsider among title contenders but 4:1 win against relegated Denizlispor and unexpected loss of points from Besiktas and Fenerbahce made them literally 3 goals behind title.

When coming to game it was expected for Galatasaray to win against Denizlispor with confident scoreline due of position of opponent but what wasnt expected that it would end day in position where it would be fighting for title. Even through this achievement deserves all high praises, to some extend it needs to be noted that Galatasaray didnt actually achieve its aim as goal difference is still being 3 goals short for getting leadership and hence rising. To some extend even if Besiktas does get ahead on 15th May it would need to look at Galatasaray amount of goals while Galatasaray would be looking to find at least 4:0 scoreline assuming Besiktas wins. It does look top spot would be changing during 90 minutes with such situation. Still, Galatasaray did get what it seek for with experiencing some worries and pressure against Denizlispor in some moments of the game.

Galatasaray is entering to last game with same points when being 6 points behind only 2 weeks, with only issue for goal difference but it can achieve to reduce it.

Emre Belozoglu decisions has costed sides leadership before last week.

Probably the most dissapointed sides among title contenders has been Fenerbahce following end of the games of 41st week, as win against Sivasspor would mean them getting into leadership but instead it found itself outside of Champions League zone.

Fenerbahce did play against side which didnt lose for 17 games and still fighting for 5th spot which could mean Conference League spot if Besiktas gets Turkish Cup on 18th May so this outcome shouldnt be treated as huge suprise, but it is true that Fenerbahce needed to play this game where Emre Belozoglu which been praised up to now did make some wrong changes when it most mattered. Fenerbahce didnt lose this title in this game when looking whole season performance, but Emre Belozoglu actions did possibly cost them title. Without doubt, Besiktas or Fatih Karagumruk, depends from perspective, did provide great opportunity for leadership before last week but Fenerbahce did decline this offer.

Fenerbahce still has opportunity for title as long as both Besiktas and Galatasaray both lose games but when it does play with side which still didnt secure its top league spot for next season and opponents looking to have goal difference fight against each other, chances are pretty low. But again this season has been full of surprises.
