What happened in Turkish football today? 16/03/2020

Sivasspor didnt manage to get crucial win.

With Super League 26th week has been played without supporters due of Covid-19 outbreak, game between Antalyaspor and Sivasspor has been among few games which been played in pretty high tempo with Antalyaspor wanting to win game.

During this game which Sivasspor did lose with 1:0 scoreline, it needs to be noted that Sivasspor didnt provide very good performance not controlling ball as its been used to be in previous games and didnt score in its 1st game. It needs to be admitted that playing without supporters and also worries about Covid-19 between players for sure has been affected due of such poor performance. In fact, Antalyaspor coach Tamer Tuna did state prior to game that players has been worried for Covid-19 development which means that both physically and mentally been affected of this developments. Still, Sivasspor player Yatabare did get very important position which if he did convert could even game as it would bring game into different development. Still, this game did show why league needs to be postponed.

Antalyaspor side compare to many other clubs has managed to focus more towards game and did provide high level performance with such circumstances and did provide very good performance from start to an end with getting highly deserved win.

Siavsspor did lose important point 3 points for title race but it needs to be admitted that noone seemed to be bothered about this due of Covid-19 atmosphere.

League need to be postponed as continuing does more harm in all aspects.

Galatasaray head coach Fatih Terim and player Fernando Muslera statements following derby game against Besiktas, whicn naturally been overshadowed with Covid19 and questions of league not being postponed, has recieved high level criticism but this blog believes its been done on place.

One of the main arguments from some pundits around Turkey and some of the opponents is that Galatasaray are using this calls for losing its home advantage psychologically since their were not supporters in fans which without doubt would been extra push for team. Assuming that this stance made by Galatasaray, at least been made due of this issue, doesnt mean that what their saying are not correct. Their is reason why all leagues in Europe are been postponed around Europe and Turkey needs to take lesson from this and dont say condition in Turkey under control, as Italy and Spain. What is most surprising in here is that Turkish government is doing drastic and important decision, with sending notice to all municipalities to close down all major gathering locations around country but it is unclear why it being resistant to continue league. One of the arguments is being here is that Russia and Ukraine still continue their leagues. Well, with knowing some Russian also I had followed some Russian media, their are many calls for league to be stopped and there is strong rumours, coming from many sources in country, that league would be postponed with announcement made latest 18th March. Reason with dipnote is that country sees is reasonable to stop league but in Turkey, parts which decide to stop it, doesnt want with worrying people seeing it right decision.

To be frank with being strong football follower, I didnt enjoy this week games so talk about raising morning doesnt sound also reasonable. As Muslera says its disrespectful for fans and players.

Trabzonspor words about Covid19 doesnt add up with its actions.

For now, Galatasaray has been most loudest to call for league to be postponed while Trabzonspor is being most side which demands for league to continue without any stoppages. While other 16 side doesnt provide much statement for whatever reasons. However, Trabzonspor words and actions doesnt add up.

Trabzonspor CEO Ahmet Agaoglu, following Super League 26th week game against Basaksehirspor, has stated that leagues should be continued as Turkey is not in big danger of Covid19 and hence their is no danger to players and if season would end Trabzonspor should be called champions, last part being sarcastic. Now, even through me personally I dont agree with this stance it could be understood and respected. But weird part comes here, Agaoglu has made this statement while wearing mask which does raise questions what the point of this mask if their is no danger. Also, Trabzonspor doesnt allow journalists to attend their training sessions until further notice which is again right decision to be made but also contradicts its statement on previous date from Agaoglu. Therefore, either Agaoglu needs either to provide according to his words or stay quiet. Meanwhile, if he would make statement stating that his words were used wrongly it would be expected or he should act like Covid19(which is not acceptable) is not being dangerous.

Covid19 is in Turkey and has risk to spread and hence it would need to provide actions accordingly with all bodies including football.
