What happened in Turkish football today? 14/11/2019

Goalless draw against Iceland brings Turkey ticket to Euro 2020.

Turkish National Team has managed to get an important goalless draw against Iceland which hence provided ticket to the Euro 2020 proper tournament with 1 game in hand as Turkey has decided to provide controllable game aiming to get this draw.

Turkish National Team as been mentioned has decided to focus into getting draw result against Iceland and not providing too much risk with focussing into strong defensive game. It needs to be noted that it has managed to do so in very good manner and has provided perfect game which needs to be shown with 0:0 scoreline. There was many talks about Turkey actually coming out to the win and it needs to be noted that even through game has been mainly focussed into defensive game, it has been one who has created dangerous chances during game with especially Burak Yilmaz showing signs that he wants to score goal. As it is known, that Iceland has always been dangerous side and their were ones who urgently needed to win to have any chances to get to the Euro2020, so it was important to show some defensive game against them. Meanwhile, it needs to be admitted that sometimes playing for draw could be very risky, but Turkey did provide strong performance on the day staying focus for its aim. It needs to be admitted that this performance does provide high hopes for its performance at the Euro 2020 proper.

Iceland meanwhile did come out to the game which was provided from focus of the playing for a win with trying to control ball but it did fail to overpass Turkey's very organised defence. But it needs to be noted that Iceland as side are not as strong as their were few years ago in all fairness.

Turkey has got into Euro 2020 which is most important factor regardless how game ended and as been mentioned this team does provide high level hopes for this team to be successful at Euro 2020.

Antalyaspor has appointed Stjepan Tomas as club's head coach.

Following termination of contract with Bulent Korkmaz, Antalyaspor has made to appoint for this position with Stjepan Tomas who as remembered has been teammate to Korkmaz during Galatasaray years.

What is even more interesting is that Antalyaspor has decided to appoint foreign coach with taking account that in this season Gaziantep is being only club to have foreign coach and also generally team tends to focus into domestic ones in recent periods. Even through experience as coach for Tomas could be questionable, as player he is very familiar with this league and knows how things are working around here more or less which would provide him and also Antalyaspor extra bonus when he would be starting his coaching in this team. As been mentioned at our blog entry yesterday, Antalyaspor does have some great players which capable to get good results and its crucial for Tomas to get back motivation back to players and aim for good results.

Time would show how successful will be Tomas be at his new role but as been mentioned he does have potential to get good results at this team.

Basaksehirspor doesnt decide to keep Arda Turan after loan is over.

It became clear that Basaksehirspor doesnt consider to sign Arda Turan after his loan deal will be over in the end of the season as there had unsatisfied with his performance during this season.

With taking account that Arda Turan didnt recieve lots of playing time during this season and when he did recieve it he didnt provide any effect into game it would be expected for coach Okan Buruk to have in future with player making him unwanted player in the side. It needs to be mentioend that Arda did show some downward with his performance in recent years and it could be seen that he is coming to end of his career which could be speed up if he would be in risk of not having club this summer. It is also rumoured in fact that club could even end loan contract with him during mid-season transfer window.

It could be seen therefore that slowly Arda Turan is coming to end of his footballing career with downside of his performance in recent years.

France 2:1 Moldova
Andorra 2:2 Albania
