What happened in Turkish football today? 05.02.2017

Besiktas and Fenerbahce game has been like an action movie.

Turkish Cup last 16 game between Besiktas and Fenerbahce has been played like an action movie with interesting referee decisions, red card ,provocative play, substitute entering to field, supporters entering to field and occassionally good football chances. At the end of the game Fenerbahce has managed to win the game with Robin van Persie goal at the 72nd minute.

It needs to be stated that Fenerbahce has played with nerves of  the Besiktas with some provacative but in same time technical game and with referee of the game Ali Palabayik not giving some yellow cards at the start of the game it has led for nerves to raise up at the game especially at the 1st half. Fenerbahce it needs to be stated has played more positive football at the 2nd half even through it has been prevented even more from Besiktas this time during last minute of the game. It needs to be stated also even through Fenerbahce player Robin van Persie has scored a goal, he done some provacative actions which led Dusco Tosic to get red card at the end of the first half. It needs to be stated that despite of some anti-football actions by Fenerbahce, it did deserve the win still with performance of 2nd half.

Besiktas meanwhile has become too emotional and easily be manipulated by Fenerbahce and also with playing at the pressure which it has recieved from its own fans and has led its had them to be getting too nervous and concentrate too much into actions of Fenerbahce rather than playing its own football. Despite of last few minutes of the 2nd half, especially after conceding goal, it didnt manage to get much attacks even through it did start to some extend to show positive football occasionally at the moments in 1st half. Of course playing against Fenerbahce with 10 men for more than half has affected to their performance and this had provided this performance by them. Besiktas needed to respond to better to this manipulative actions and needed to focus into the game for sure.

Fenerbahce needed this win after its poor performance at the Super League in last few weeks and becoming first side to win against Besiktas at the Vodafone Arena would certainly led them at higher mood and be turning point for next weeks. Besiktas this loss might not be affected much though as its target at the Super League for league title will not be affected.

Basaksehirspor carries on its impressive performance with a win against Galatasaray.

Basaksehirspor carries on an impressive season both at the Super League and Turkish Cup by recieving an important win against Galatasaray during Turkish Cup last 16 game at the game where their were many questionable referee decisions.

It needs to be stated that game referee Mete Kalkavan was at his bad day during the game, but regardless that it would be still be hard for Galatasaray to win against their opponent as their were more systematic and organised during the game which led for such good game. Basaksehirspor player Mustafa Pektemek who previously has been criticised for his performance at Besiktas has become star of the game by  scoring two goals even through 2nd was mainly due of luck. Yesterday, Basaksehirspor CEO Goksel Gumusdag has once again reminded his good-will behaviour by admitting that Pektemek 1st goal assist player Edin Visca was an offside  and once again reminded the need of introducing video-refereeing to the Turkish football. Newly-signed players has also created good performance and this game just proves that Basaksehirspor would likely to be at the title race until end and one of the candidates to raise Turkish Cup.

This win would certainly provide big motivation for upcoming league games and the team to be looked at until May as it obvious that the team is with big aims for rest of the season.

Galatasaray has lacked creativity against Basaksehirspor.

In other side, Galatasaray wasnt able to show an impressive football at the game yesterday and was way behind of its performance at the Turkish Cup and apart of finding goal and also post by Lukas Podolski had been only two memorable attacks by them.

Yesterday, game has in fact shown the important of its players Wesley Sneijder and Fernando Muslera and their role of the performance at the team, factor which was known for long time. Fernando Muslera has been deciding to give rest due of his injured hand  while Sneijder getting injured during 5th minute has shown how much Galatasaray has been disorganised and vurnerable at the back. It wasnt able to play their organised football and hence the team has been seen slow, out of ideas and not having fighting spirit. It needs to be stated that even through Jan Olde Riekerink did get good results at club, he still shows that he is not aware of full potentiality of the squad and how to use players with more effectively. This lack of creativity has affected to the performance yesterday.

Right now, Galatasaray is out of competition which it has won for last 3 seasons at the last 16 stage and now would give all its focus to the Super League where it would fight for league title and compete for that aim with Basaksehirspor also.
